West Ham legend Billy Bonds has claimed that the club’s new home the London Stadium has a lack of atmosphere and its not a ground designed for football.

The Hammers moved from the Boleyn Ground to the new arena over the course of the summer, with the increased capacity tipped to play a major role the club’s development.

Slaven Bilic’s men have had their issues at the London Stadium so far, with only a win over Bournemouth to show for their efforts to date.

This was compounded by a 4-2 loss to Watford and disruptions and fans violence on the terraces, throwing negative national publicity on the club.

Bonds has given his verdict on the London Stadium and stated that despite the increased capacity he was not overly taken by the Hammers’ new home.

“I went to the Bournemouth game and I was sat behind the media,” he told KUMB.

“It just seemed miles away from the pitch and you couldn’t get the atmosphere up there.

“Personally speaking, I don’t think it’s a football ground. I can honestly say that. That’s not to say I didn’t moan about it when we were moving, but I didn’t share a lot of opinions about it because we were going to move anyway, so it didn’t matter.”

West Ham return to action at the London Stadium at the weekend with Southampton the visitors to take on Bilic’s side.
