West Ham United chief Karren Brady has stated that the majority of the club’s fans have acted impeccably since the move to the London Stadium and that increased security measures at Hammers home games has worked.

The Irons have moved from their longstanding club at the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium over the summer, which has allowed the club to increase capacity.

However, the change of home has not been smooth sailing as yet, with performances on the pitch not up to the required standard, with a 3-0 defeat to Southampton the latest setback.

This was compounded by a section of the home faithful becoming embroiled in unsavoury violence on the terraces in the 4-2 defeat to Watford earlier this month.

Since then the Premier League side has looked to increase the number of security staff at the ground and bolster police presence, while an added amount of segregation between rival fans has been incorporated also.

Brady has stated that she feels the Watford incidents were a one-off and that the majority of West Ham fans have been exemplary in their behaviour at the London Stadium.

“I am delighted that the game passed without any major incidents on Sunday and it shows the hard work that has been put in place by our stakeholders and everyone at the Club,” she told the club’s official website.

“Despite the disappointing result on the pitch, our fans came together and stayed united as we look to improve the matchday experience for everyone at London Stadium.

“We listened to the feedback of our fans and identified areas that needed to be addressed, including the segregation of supporters and relocation of some of our fans, but we will not stop there and will continue to make more improvements every day.

“We must stress that the vast majority of the more than 300,000 supporters who have attended a game at the Stadium since August have supported the team exceptionally and behaved impeccably.

“I want to thank everyone of them for their continued support through some difficult results, and can assure them that they will continue to see positive changes taking place at London Stadium at every home game.”
