West Ham have endured and up and down start to the current season. A narrow, and controversial, loss away at Chelsea was marred by Andre Ayew’s untimely injury blow before a win at home to Bournemouth was followed with news that Andy Carroll will miss a lengthy period of time. Roll into the mix Europa League qualification defeat at the hands of Astra Giurgiu and there couldn’t be a much worse time to play Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The table toppers have a 100% record and have scored more goals than any of their divisional rivals over the opening two games, but the Irons won in the blue half of Manchester last season, so there’s a chance of a surprise.

So, who should you pick from the claret and blue-clad outfit to earn you points and cash? Well, here are a few options:

Enner Valencia – £5.9m

Granted, Valencia may not be a glamorous choice, but with Slaven Bilic so short of players up front that some fans are even considering taking their boots with them to games, the Ecuadorian may get the nod. Indeed, the 26-year-old started against Bournemouth last weekend and scored 6.25 points, which, although not a great haul, is promising. West Ham will need energy and presence up front, which Valencia offers.

Michail Antonio – £9.6m

Thriving in the more advanced role he’s used to, Antonio bagged 24.13 points last weekend as he notched the winner for West Ham at the London Stadium. Much of the Hammers’ game at Man City will be based around counter-attacking football, and the wide-man has the pace to exploit space left by the Citizens’ adventurous full-backs.

Cheikhou Kouyate – £9.1m

Rangy and powerful, Kouyate offers real presence in midfield for West Ham. The Hammers will need to get a grip of the battle in the engine room against Man City, whose metronomic passing will be enough to break them down over 90 minutes, unless they can disturb their rhythm. Three interceptions was a notable return against Bournemouth last weekend, especially as the Irons enjoyed the bulk of the game against the 10-man Cherries.
