West Ham United are believed to still hold an interest in Liverpool striker Christian Benteke and are not yet out of the running to land the dynamic centre forward, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers have been active in the summer transfer market and have landed Jonathan Calleri and Andre Ayew to bolster Slaven Bilic’s options in the final third.

However, the London club had hoped to attract an out-and-out number nine of note that could lead the club forward in 2016-17.

Benteke was signed at significant expense by the Anfield club after his exploits and goalscoring form for Aston Villa, but has fallen out of favour at the Merseyside outfit following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.

Crystal Palace and West Brom are both being linked with the Belgian powerhouse, but the latest report suggests that the Hammers are monitoring the situation and could be tempted into the race for the star’s signature.
