West Ham United are ready to step in and sign Aston Villa star Idrissa Gueye according to The Sun, with Everton fuming after being on the cusp of agreeing a deal to land the midfielder.
The Senegal international played the majority of the Midlands club’s games in the Premier League last season and was a rare bright spark for the relegated outfit.
Gueye is said to have a £7.1 million release clause in his contract, with Everton initially triggered in an attempt to bring the 26-year-old to Goodison Park.
However, the report states that the Hammers are also interested in the former Lille battler and have matched the Merseysiders’ offer – much to the frustration of new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman.
Although a new striker and left-back cover are priorities for the London Stadium outfit, Gueye’s purchase would be a cost-effective way of beefing up Slaven Bilic’s options in the heart of midfield.
