Former West Ham United midfielder Alex Song has signed a permanent deal with Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan, The Daily Mail report.

The Cameroon international spent 24 months on loan at the east London club, but Slaven Bilic’s men opted not to make his stay permanent earlier this summer.

Song was a positive influence in the 2014-15 campaign but struggled with injuries and form last term, as Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate dominated central midfield for the Hammers.

The African enforcer was released by Barcelona this summer following his contract at Camp Nou expiring and was being linked with a number of Premier League clubs as a result.

However, Rubin Kazan have won the race for Song’s signature, in what will be an interesting new challenge for the former West Ham star.

The Hammers hierarchy opted not to further the loan deals of a number of players from last season’s squad, stating that improved alternatives would be signed in the transfer market.
