Slaven Bilic has confirmed that he is looking to bring in a minimum of five new players before the end of the summer window.

The manager was talking after the Irons’ 3-0 victory in the Europa League last night:

“Basically we have five games before the September international break and this squad is not big enough.

“Hopefully we will have a minimum of five players to add to this squad.”

West Ham’s performance was a solid one considering the team is still getting up to speed but there were areas that Bilic will look to improve in the coming weeks.

The Hammers are short of options in the full-back areas and the expected arrival of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon will help to aid that issue as he is a player that can fill in at right and left-back.

Andy Carroll and Ashley Fletcher made up the strike force for the Hammers last night and this is an area of the pitch that is Bilic’s priority.

The club are still awaiting a response from AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca, whilst Swansea’s Andre Ayew and Argentinian forward Jonathan Calleri are expected to join the club.

If all those moves go through, Bilic will still want to sign another player. With Aaron Cresswell’s injury keeping him out for an extended period of time, the Hammers may look to bring in two defenders in order to ensure strength in depth.

With the likes of Gokhan Tore, Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet all returning soon, the Hammers look well equipped in the midfield department. Encouraging home debuts from Havard Nordtveit and Sofiane Feghouli is a further testament to the quality West Ham possess in the middle.
