David Gold has spoken of how West Ham has got the very best out of Dimitri Payet in an interview with BBC radio 5 live.

When Gold was questioned over how West Ham could keep hold of their star man, the Hammers co-owner gave a meaningful response:

“You make him as happy as you can” said Gold.

“He has a great relationship with the manager, he’s settled in London with his family, the fans adore him. We’ve done everything we possibly can do”

Payet enjoyed a superb debut season in the Premier League, relishing a protagonist’s role in Slaven Bilic’s side. The midfielder carried on his form into the European Championships, impressing for Didier Deschamps’ squad and earning a place in the official Euro 2016 team of the tournament.

Naturally, this impressive run of form has resulted in a lot of media speculation linking the Frenchman with a transfer away from the club, with the likes of Real Madrid rumoured to be interested in the 29-year-old.

Despite this, Gold was defiant in his stance on Payet:

“The super clubs would come after a player of his ability” he claimed.

“We wouldn’t even listen to an offer under £50 million and even then we need to keep our best players. We don’t welcome any offers for Dimitri. He’s instrumental, he’s important, the team is built round him. He’s not for sale”

Many Hammers fans are apprehensive about the prospect of Dimitri Payet leaving the club but Gold’s comments confirms the club’s firm stance on the attacker’s future at West Ham United.
