West Ham have contacted Italian side Fiorentina in a bid to sign Germany forward Mario Gomez, according to Turkish newspaper Fanatik.
After the German striker’s excellent domestic season with Besiktas, Gomez has been linked with a move to West Ham as Slaven Bilic prowls Europe for a lethal striker. The 30-year-old scored 26 goals in the Turkish Superlig last season and is currently leading the line for Germany in the European Championships.
West Ham looked to have missed out on Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi as he looks destined to move to Palace for a fee of around €38 million. The Hammers are looking for value for money and are not willing to pay over the odds for a player who is still very much a raw talent.

Mario Gomez is essentially the opposite of Michy Batshuayi. An experienced forward with a scoring pedigree that covers leagues such as the Bundesliga and Serie A, Gomez has always been a reliable source of goals for whatever team he has played for.
A tall yet mobile forward, Gomez is the perfect target man that sniffs out goals in the penalty area. He has scored twice for Germany in their ongoing Euro 2016 campaign, forcing his way back into Joachim Loew’s first team.
Transfermarkt.com value the striker at £9 million, which could appeal to the Hammers as they seek value for money in the transfer market this summer.
