Valencia is stretchered off against Everton

Having been without key players throughout this season, many West Ham fans believe that in a injury league table we must be pretty high.

Andy Carroll has been out of action for a few months, Sakho had time on the sidelines throughout the season, Valencia, Payet, Lanzini, Tomkins, Reid and Collins have all spent a significant amount of time in the treatment room throughout this season.

The Daily Star have put together an injury league table, including all 20 Premier League teams.

Each player that is out of action for a week gets one point, and West Ham currently have 175 points.

Rather shockingly, we are actually only 10th in the injury league table.

This is almost 200 points behind first place Newcastle with 374.

There was a time in December where about 6-7 first team players were out injured, for more than one week, so it seems unlikely that we would be so far down the list.

It appears that the league table has included many second string players as well as first team players. If it were based on first team only, there is a good chance that we would be breaking the injury top four. In terms of quality players missing games, we have been unfortunate this season. If we had all of our key players fit around Christmas, we could easily have been in top four contention right now, but injuries happened at the same time to our big players.

In general, we can’t be too unhappy with our injury woes this year. At the moment, Slaven Bilic has more or less a full squad of players available.

Although, Swansea’s 39 injury points would have been nice.
