West Ham United are keeping a close eye on promising Uruguayan youngster Federico Martinez according to The Sun, with the attacker being compared to Angel Di Maria for his style of play.

The Hammers are keen to bolster their ranks ahead of a move to the Olympic Stadium next season and are expected to busy in the transfer market as a result this summer.

Martinez has recently broken into Uruguayan side Liverpool’s first team and has delighted the fans with some exhilarating shows of skill and speed.

As such, the 20-year-old is being compared to Di Maria for his direct and penetrating style of play.

It is believed that the Hammers would have to shell out about £1 million for the South American ace and that he initially would be a fringe player in the squad.

Martinez is able to apply for an EU passport through family ties, which would make a move to the Boleyn Ground much easier.
