Football transfer rumours are a big part of today’s game. Players are linked to big clubs before they’ve even thought about it themselves, with countlessrumours being completely untrue.

It isn’t uncommon for Twitter accounts, newspapers and football websites to purely fabricate the latest transfer news and claim that according to their sources, West Ham are eyeing up these players. Without naming any particular websites, there are some that seem to pick players almost at random, mainly because the players aren’t happy at their respective clubs or aren’t getting game time. This seems to be what is happening with West Ham at the moment, because we have some money to spend in the summer.

Yohan Cabaye is the latest player linked with a £15 million move. As it stands, we have Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate, Alex Song and Pedro Obiang as central midfielders. Manuel Lanzini plays just ahead of the them, and so does Dimitri Payet. Gold and Sullivan aren’t going to fork out £15 million for Cabaye because he’s simply not that much of an improvement on what we’ve already got, plus we are already sufficient in that area of the pitch.

Theo Walcott has been linked with a £26 million move to The Boleyn Ground. Common sense should prevail on this one, he isn’t worth half of that the way he’s been playing. We are looking at players that are on the rise, rather than other clubs rejections. The same goes for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He wouldn’t get in the team over Michail Antonio so why would we pay £10 million plus for a substitute.

Another recent rumours is James Wilson. The player isn’t good enough to start for us, so why would we pay the rumoured £11 million for him?

Slaven Bilic is only going to spend big money on players that will improve the squad considerably, especially for anything more than £10 million. Common sense should prevail in most cases for West Ham fans, if it sounds ridiculous there is every chance that it is.

We are looking for a marquee signing for next season, a massive name that will be walking out at The Olympic Stadium. A Premier League rivals cast off isn’t someone who would fit the bill.
