A famous Old Trafford victory that set the benchmark for teams going away to Manchester United and doing a job. Hislop had one of the greatest games of his career and the defence were fantastic before Paolo Di Canio’s late winner proved enough to see us through to the next round.

There was some controversy about the winner, with Fabian Barthez claiming Di Canio was offside and not even attempting to stop the goal, but Di Canio was level and the linesman made the right decision. Lampard and Kanoute started for West Ham, whilst the combined powers of Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t find the net for United.
