West Ham are in pole position to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit this summer according to the Daily Mail.

The report states that the Norwegian international has agreed to join the Hammers after a number of impressive displays for the German side both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

The former Arsenal reserves captain has attracted interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool to name but a few. Despite the high-profile interest, Nordtveit sees West Ham as a club where he can develop effectively.

The 25-year-old will be a valuable addition to the West Ham squad as he is very versatile. He has played at centre-back, right-back and more predominantly in midfield this season. He is blessed with an excellent footballing brain, allowing him to read the game and spark attacks from a deeper midfield position.

Slaven Bilic has needed reinforcements this season, especially in a defensive sense. The likes of Cheikou Kouyate and Michail Antonio have been forced to play in deeper defensive roles due to the injuries sustained at the back. If the Hammers do capture Nordtveit, they will be getting a promising player that can add extra value and depth to the squad.

Monchengladbach were keen to extend Nordtveit’s current deal but the midfielder believes that his future lies in England.

The 25-year-old has scored four goals this season and is certainly capable of the spectacular. Check out some of his excellent long-range strikes in the videos below:
