Carlton Cole

Former Hammer Carlton Cole is set to train with Celtic this week in order to secure a switch to the Scottish champions.

The 31-year-old was watching Celtic’s encounter with Dundee at Celtic Park, a match that ended in a 6-0 victory for Ronny Deila’s side.

When questioned on the Cole situation, Deila denied that he was taking the striker on trial:

“It is not [a trial]. He has been in London his whole life, so he has to see what he is coming to and then we will see if it is something that he likes and we like as well.

“I think he is a very good football player and he shown in the Premier League and also the Championship that he can score goals and he is different to what we have.

“He is a target man, very good in the air and strong and that is something that, if everything fits, could be good for us.”

There were rumours in the summer that Cole was considering a move to MLS but it now looks as if his priority lies in Scotland. Although he found opportunities limited at West Ham last season, there is no doubt that Cole can still do a job and the Scottish league could be the perfect fit for him.

Will Carlton be a success at Celtic if he signs? Can he fire them to the Champions League?
