Three more big names expected to seal moves to West Ham

Carl Jenkinson

Jack Sullivan has become a bit of a transfer guru in recent times and the co-chairman’s son was on hand earlier today to update the West Ham faithful on the club’s transfer activity for the week ahead.

Sullivan junior acknowledged the fact that the club have indeed been very quiet in recent days, with the ‘Boleyn Insider’ confirming last week that players were expected to sign very soon. The official club’s ‘in the know’ was once again mysteriously incorrect, as West Ham failed to announce a new signing in the same week Alex Song was actually present at the Lusitans game.

Jack seemed very hopeful in his latest tweet, outlining the fact that West Ham are in negotiations with three players and that the deals were heading in the right direction. You can bet your house that two of those players are Alex Song and Carl Jenkinson. The club have agreed personal terms with Song and are waiting to reach an agreement with Barcelona in terms of his release from the Catalan giants. Hopefully this transfer will be wrapped up in the coming days as Song would be another top-class addition to the team.

Carl Jenkinson should return to the Boleyn Ground after his very impressive loan spell last season. The club wanted Jenkinson on a permanent deal but they may have to settle for another loan as Arsenal, who are swimming in right-backs, are not keen on letting the England U21 international leave the Emirates on a permanent basis.

The third player is an intriguing one. West Ham have been linked with Juventus centre-back Angelo Ogbonna in recent days and some reports are suggesting that the Italian could be flying over to London to discuss a transfer to West Ham. The other name linked with a switch to London is Yohan Cabaye but he has attracted the interest of Crystal Palace as well and a reunion with Alan Pardew could well be on the cards despite French reports claiming the midfielder would prefer a move to West Ham.

If the Hammers can strike three deals by the end of the week, it would mean that a large proportion of the club’s summer business would have been completed. Jenkinson and Song represent excellent signings and the almost inevitable arrival of another centre-back will only add further quality to an already impressive defence next season.

There is, however, the niggling absence of another proven striker in West Ham’s squad, let’s just hope the board realise this sooner rather than later.

I was under the impression that barring any last minute snags, that Song and Jenks were a done deal. So not much “news” there then”! Imo.
The third deal is more interesting though, I suspect it has something to do with the signing of a top class defender? Which I believe would be a very good deal.

The only detail remaining is whether we are going French or Italian? My preference would be the monoco rock. But an Italian defender should never be sniffed at. IFBB!

Yes but Song and Jenkinson don’t represent two new signings, do they because we had them last year, so they don’t actually strength the squad over and above last season.
We have, actually at this moment still only made two significant signings that should improve and strengthen the depth of the squad and one of those would be cancelled out if we let Downing go, so in my book, we are still treading water in the strengthening dept.

So they would not represent two new signings??? We may have had them registered to play for us but they were not “signed” on a permanent basis. From where we were 2-3 years back where we were signing Joey O’Brien, Kevin Nolan, Ricardo Vaz Te, Nicky maynard etc etc. to even be in negotiations with Songs of this world and be able to compete for his signature just shows how far we have come. Yes, Song had a lazy finish to the season but what would you expect when he didn’t know where his future was heading, there was doubts surrounding the manager, the whole team was struggling…….this is a significant movement forward and we are spending the dosh this summer. Obiang, Payet, Hendrie, Song, jenkinson AND hopefully add another centre half, cover for Jenkinson i.e. Johnson and bring in more youth into midfield, we can certainly go places!! Id be happy to let Downing go for 6-7m. That will be profit for a 30year old who really only one good half of the season……final ball is not consistent enough!! Big Andy coming back from injury……this is all encouraging!!! Have faith…the good times are coming back soon…COYI

i’ve been saying forever bring in a goal scorer jenks deffinately song im not so sure about too many lazy passes for my liking but a goal scorer with valencia ok sakho great and ac injury prone we need another striker id buy austin if poss with jordan rhodes as second choice

September 1st is a long long way away and you can bet your Strawberries and Cream the Daves will be bargain shopping in the last minute sales…..

  • Canchas says:

As I already posted on here(which seems to have vanished) Song and Jenkinson are not additions in the true sense of the word as we had them last year. Therefore they do not add to the depth or improvement of the squad but merely maintain it
and constitute a loss if we don’t sign them.
So, even if they do sign, we will still have only added two players to our depth problem and if we let Downing go, we will have made a net gain of one. Long way to go to solve the problem from last year
