The Hammers are getting closer to finally an appointing a new manager at Upton Park.

Jack Sullivan tweeted earlier today that the club hopes to confirm a managerial appointment in 48 hours, sparking speculation that Slaven Bilic is understood to be the man for the job.

Although the Croat is still certainly the favourite, Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa is still yet to sign a new deal at the French club. Whether it’s Bilic or Bielsa, it resembles a step in a different direction for West Ham, with the club opting for foreign managerial talent rather than Premier League experience. Bielsa certainly has a wealth of footballing experience and has often been praised for his excellent tactical approach to a number of teams at both club and international level. On the other hand, Bilic has also managed at international and club level, performing well in both footballing environments. Jack Sullivan also tweeted about the possibility of West Ham signing a new player this week. Speculation points to West Ham snapping up either Andre Ayew, formerly of Marseille, or Pedro Obiang of Sampdoria. Reports suggest that both players have turned down Tottenham and there remains the strong possibility that both players could sign for the Hammers.

Both deals are expected to be close to an agreement but recent reports suggest that AC Milan have made a late move for Obiang. This is largely due to the fact that Milan are looking to hire Sinisa Mihajlovic, who managed Sampdoria last season. He is understood to be a big fan of the 23-year-old and could hijack West Ham’s move in a bid to keep the former Atletico Madrid youth player in Italy. Although this may be the case, the ever-reliable @ExWHUemployee revealed that he believes Obiang and Bilic are the men close to joining West Ham.

Yesterday, the Telegraph reported that West Ham were ‘closing in’ on the signing of Ghana international Andre Ayew. The attacking midfielder performed well last season, scoring 13 goals in 35 appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s Marseille. Whether there is a connection between Bielsa and the potential Ayew deal remains to be seen but the picture will certainly become clearer in the next couple of days.

The unpredictable and frankly painful wait for West Ham fans appears to be reaching its conclusion. Whether it’s Bilic or Bielsa or Obiang or Ayew, the club are finally starting to prepare for next season and exciting times await.
