Is it finally time for West Ham to give up on Andy Carroll?

Andy Carroll

The Sun are reporting that Andy Carroll will look to re-join Newcastle United this summer. It is understood the change of manager at West ham could spark the end of Andy Carroll’s West Ham United career and Newcastle appears to be the most attractive option for the injury-plagued striker.

The big Geordie has been horribly unlucky with injuries throughout his career and it was a similar story for the striker again this season. West Ham’s number nine was hitting a decent patch of form before a knee injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Although Carroll is more than capable of tearing defences apart on his day, those days are just too few and far between for most Hammers fans and there is a growing feeling that the former Liverpool striker should be sold in the summer. It would result in a massive relief on the wage bill as Carroll earns around £100,000 a week. This is clearly a lot of money spent on a player that has a track record of barely partaking in half a season’s football for the Hammers.

I’m sure Carroll is as frustrated as anyone but with Europa League football around the corner, West Ham will need a large amount of their squad regularly fit due to the demands of balancing Europe and a domestic campaign. Right now, Andy Carroll is not the type of player West Ham can rely on so if a relatively solid bid is made for the striker you would expect that it would be hard for the board to turn it down. Yes, there is still that element of pride for Gold and Sullivan who probably still feel that Carroll needs to repay the £15 million transfer fee that the club paid for him back in 2013 but sometimes you just have to accept that enough is enough.

There is also the small matter of the expected change in the brand of football at Upton Park as the owners will look to hire a manager that plays attractive, free-flowing football. Carroll does not naturally fit into a system like this so once again, the striker may offer more baggage than solutions for the club next season.

A bid of around £8 million should be enough to convince the board to sell as clubs will not pay £15 million for a man with a very unreliable fitness record. It saddens me to be writing this article as when Andy does play, he gives his all for the club and is an incredibly dangerous striker. However, the potential to reinvest money from his sale could be an opportunity that the board and perhaps the new manager will find incredibly difficult to ignore.

What do you think West Ham should do with Andy Carroll? Should they keep hold of him for another year and take the risk or is it time to finally say goodbye?

He does add some height in the box , which other players can feed off , but as the writer explains the times he is fit are few and far between . Personally I would keep him , at least until the January transfer window , I mean West Ham could be out of the Europa league by then and they can concerntrait on the League

it does not matter if you’re thebest player inthe world £100 grand a wk for what 12 games get rid and bring in two players on that money

Depends on getting a better option replacement first. We can’t be allowed to go another season without a decent strike force, a 14 game one is better than nothing.

Time for the big man to jump ship sounds good to me. Jordon rhodes would get my vote as a replacement.

Brilliant player. Keep him fit and he will get plenty of goals. Notice how our form went when he was injured.

I agree with mr john , keep AC if he’s fit see how we get on with Europe campaign , if we screw up then we sale him in the Jan window.

Get rid Andy Carroll will never stay fit. Also he is not a natural goal scorer if he could last a season you would be lucky if he would score 10 goals

Never been fit enough to play half a season at any club, injured at Newcastle Liverpool and again with us, not a good track record anywhere. Best get rid and spend the money on maybe two replacements won’t ever get even half a season out of him.

Please Newcastle make us an offer, I feel it what Carroll needs personally, to be brought down to earth with a might bang! and that is never going to happen in London, in Newcastle fans will not stand for it!

  • Tony gore says:

He’s like Paul Gascoigne was! A good player but hardly ever did !

  • george lee says:

Give him one more chance, after the long layoff and the break in the season he should be over his wows.
