Alex Song

Pedro Obiang is a player that is constantly being linked with a switch to Upton Park and he has been touted as a possible replacement for Alex Song. The Spaniard has scored three goals so far this season and operates as a box-to-box midfielder.

Looking at the stats, it’s clear to see that Obiang has maintained a good level of fitness throughout his Serie A campaign due to the amount of games he has featured in for Sampdoria (30). Although he operates predominantly in a deeper midfield position, the same position currently occupied by Alex Song, he still has an attacking influence on the game due to the number of chances he has created so far this season.

At just 23-years-old, he would certainly apply to West Ham’s new recruitment policy of signing young, promising players for the future. Also, with a rumoured price-tag of around £8 million, he won’t exactly break the bank either. His wage demands are likely to be far less extortionate than the salary Alex Song is likely to want so once again, the move makes sense on a financial front for West Ham.

Compared to the rest of the Hammers midfield, Obiang has won the most amount of tackles (72), compared with the likes of Alex Song (64), Cheikou Kouyate (53) and Mark Noble (46). In terms of Obiang’s overall style of play, he is incredibly strong in the tackle and has an eye for a pass. Although he may not be one of West Ham’s top signings this summer, he certainly looks like a good investment as West Ham cannot afford to fork out the money for Alex Song when it is not guaranteed that he will produce his best football on a regular basis next season.

No – let Song go. He lost the ball occasionally and failed to pick up attackers other times which led to goals against.

i think obiang would solve a lot of problems in midfield we need hard working players like this guy i think alex song will find it hard to find a club that will pay him those sort of wages he just does not work hard enough for me
