West Ham’s squad this season is much stronger than previous seasons. You could argue that currently we have our best squad since our successful days in the 1980s. But, our squad is far from perfect and probably in need of some strengthening in some areas.
We need another centre-back and this has become urgent after losing James Tomkins and James Collins against Hull City through injury. We need a versatile defender who can also play in midfield, someone who can play full-back on both sides.
As well as that, we need an attacking midfielder as there isn’t enough cover for Stewart Downing as Kevin Nolan simply isn’t good enough anymore. Now that Ricardo Vaz Te has had his contract terminated, I think there would be no harm in bringing in a young fresh striker to learn from Teddy Sheringham and our current strikers. With Diafra Sakho injured, and Mauro Zarate out on loan, a bit of misfortune and another injury could leave us short of strikers.
