West Ham haven’t had the best of luck at Goodison Park in recent years, and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat means it is now almost ten years since we saw a Hammers victory on the blue half of Merseyside. Nonetheless, the scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the whole story.

In the absence of arguably our best five players – Stewart Downing, Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia, Alex Song and Cheikhou Kouyate, the rest of the squad put in a really strong performance in an unfamiliar system and probably deserved at least a point in the grand scheme of things.

The game began rather sloppily, with both sides frequently giving up possession and struggling to get a foothold. Romelu Lukaku’s goal after 26 minutes, which replays show should have been ruled out for offside, strangely sparked the Hammers into life.

West Ham pushed for an equaliser throughout the first half, but to no avail – it was in fact the introduction of Mauro Zarate just five minutes into the second half that gave the Hammers the spark they needed. The Argentine’s deflected strike found the Everton net just six minutes later, and from then on it looked as if the away side were the only team who we going to grab a winner. Unfortunately, an Everton counter-attack from our own attacking corner was our undoing, as Leon Osman swept home a Samuel Eto’o pull back to claim all three points for the Blues.

    Vaz Te??
really must be scraping the barrel!!
surely he needs to be loaned out to the championship where he can look like a player again….. Maybe even show enough to return something on the investment?

Right, that’s it, if Carroll’s gonna make a statement then he’d better make it this Saturday against the team that rejected him. It’s about time you show us what you can do again Andy, and you too Nolan, and hey, they’ve snuck over us into 5th place. Let’s give Pardew a really unwelcome return to the East End when he shows his face here again. I pray that Sakho & Valencia are fit again as those 2 lads really know how to Rock n’ Roll. Come on you irons, lets stop this slide, lets stand our ground and get back on top again and really lay the hammer down on em
