West Ham ace set for surprising loan move

Ravel MorrisonSam Allardyce has announced that some of our younger ‘fringe’ players will be spending some time on short-term loan with Championship clubs. It’s a pretty standard thing to do for younger players to ensure that they stay fit and gain experience whilst waiting for their chance at first team football. The first two names that will be heading out on loan, according to London24, are new signing Diego Poyet, and rather familiar face Ra’vel Morrison.

I must admit I’m a little surprised at this. I’m pleased as punch for Poyet to keep growing and developing whilst getting playing time for a Championship club – but how is Ra’vel Morrison a fringe player?

Similarly, why are we playing him in an Under-21 game against Fulham rather than having him on the bench against Liverpool? Surely the boy has amounted to being more than a ‘fringe’ player by this point? And what’s keeping him from pushing for a place in the first team?

Don’t get me wrong; we know the kid’s got some problems. Ra’vel has had anger issues both on and off the pitch, and he’s currently contesting charges of assault relating to his ex-girlfriend. On the pitch, he’s not yet got the maturity of a senior footballer (Mario Balotelli not included) but his talent is both clear and enviable. Leaving his personal life aside, is he not ready to be a regular contender for first team football?

Certainly the influx of new, exciting, foreign midfielders has impacted his opportunities for playing time. New signings Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song look strong in midfield, and Morgan Amalfitano brings a lot of experience to the squad. However, by constantly shuffling Morrison around, are we turning our backs on strong English potential?

Of course, if a young player isn’t getting adequate time on the pitch at Upton Park, by all means, send them out on loan so that they stay fit and get first team ready— but Ra’vel seems to spend most of his time out on loan, and it’s a shame we’re entering another season in which we might not see much of the enigmatic youngster playing in claret and blue.

Sam Allardyce has made it clear that the loans will be short-term, and stated that the loans will give Morrison and Poyet “first team experience, but also {West Ham} won’t lose them for too long just in case we run into an injury problem.” Given that we currently have none of our four injured players returning in time for the Liverpool game, we may see Ra’vel back in the squad very soon, indeed.

Are you pleased Ra’vel could be heading out on loan, or would you rather actually see him play for West Ham? What is stopping his development into a first team regular?

It is time that Morrison either played first team football for West Ham, or goes.

Sam never seemed to gel with Ravel and it looks like he is farming him out on loan again after he helped QPR into PL last term; you would have thought his spot almost certain!! Perhaps the two Dave’s’ should push to keep him in the side and fighting for his position before he quits for another club and they get the benefits

You’ve half answered your own question Emily. It might be advisable to loan Morrison out until these assault allegations are cleared up. At the same time he has the opportunity to develop his role as an attacking midfielder which involves a bit of chasing back, making a few tackles & challenging for a few headers & not just skipping round two or three defenders only to be beaten by the fourth.

No change from Sam, and his mentality, the truth in the pudding will be once Nolan is fit, will he walk straight back into the team??

At the moment who would you drop to play Morrinson,if he is going to grow and prove he wants to be a true hammer, he needs playing time at a championship club ( poss til end jan ) and sign a new contract or go in the window.
With downing, zarate,Jarvis, noble, song,Koyoute, amalfitano, poyet and Nolan there is no room to give him a chance and he has not earned the chance yet .

To answer some of the questions – he is a fringe player because he is on the fringe of the first team. The main thing holding him back from being a first team regular is a mixture of himself and the addition of some good players that compete for his place.

He is certainly talented but people forget that was dropped for QPR’s play off semi second leg and the final. He coasts through games and wants too long on the ball too often. The place to smooth off any rough edges is not in our first team.

Is Sam was gone then I’m sure he would be a first team player., but Nolan should be coming on from the bench to replace ravel as Nolan ain’t as sharpe as he use to be.id rather play ravel than Jarvis.. He was a waste of £10m.fingers crossed Sam gets the boot by Man U game and some one wiv a more attacking mind comes in like Sven the swed or even better fabio cappello would do great at west ham n would only be on the same wages as Sam give or take a £m. It’s ok the board going out n getting these good players but sam will always pick carrol n Nolan a head of any of them!

Sven or Capello? What on earth have you been smoking today. Sven isn’t what we need & Capello is Managing the Russian national team. Listening to what the ” Dave’s have said, it will be almost certain be a British manager.

  • blimey says:

Ravel is a fringe player and rightly so, he’s yet to make his contribution indispensible to the team, so coming off the bench is about right.
as for Sven…. You have got to be f£(king kidding!???

We have just stuffed the scousers.I’m not a fan of Allerdyce but given the start we have made to the season let’s stop the negativity and enjoy the way the boys are playing.Sakho chipped effort reminded me of one of Frankie Mac’s goals.
Morrison has a lot of growing up to do.How about we leave Allerdyce to do his work. You never know West Ham may just be the best thing that’s happened to him,we have pushed him and he might just deliver.
