Were West Ham right to cash in on Hull City new boy?

Mohamed DiameMohamed Diame has finally got his dream move to a top four side after joining City. Oh, what? Sorry – that’s Hull City. That sounds about right.

Diame was consistently inconsistent at West Ham and I’m not particularly bothered that he has been signed up on deadline day by Hull City.

Mohamed made 79 appearances for West Ham in all competitions and he scored 14 goals in that time. The Hammers certainly made a good profit out of Diame after he signed on a free transfer in 2012 after rejecting a contract offer from his then club Wigan Athletic. Hull City reportedly took Diame off our hands for £3.5million and I’m certainly pleased with that amount.

At times, I was a fan of Momo but he really favoured shooting too highly and was largely wasteful with it. He is one of those players who appears to be perceived better by opposition clubs supporters than his own. You’ll talk to a fan of any other club and they’ll tell you how good he is, and when he was at Wigan I would have said the same. However, us West Ham fans now understand how frustrating it is watching Diame run with the ball and essentially leave the ball behind him as he does so. When he does run effectively towards the goal he usually slams the ball into the stands (and the upper tiers at that).

Don’t get me wrong, Diame seems to be a nice man and as a Senegalese international he has left behind fellow countrymen Cheikhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho, who both signed for the club this window. Kouyate has been hugely impressive and may have been part of the reason that Diame has been allowed to leave the club. The arrival of Alex Song is also another obvious reason as to why Diame has gone as you would like to think that Noble, Kouyate and Song will be the central midfield options with Diego Poyet waiting in the wings and that Matt Jarvis, Stewart Downing, Ricardo Vaz Te, and Morgan Amalfitano will occupy the wide positions.

In summary, I wouldn’t say I’m happy to see the back of Diame, but I’m not particularly bothered by his departure. I think we have better players in his position(s), and we also made a nice profit off of his sale.

Agree with you Toby , he thinks he’s a better player than he really is and for all his talk about Arsenal and Liverpool chasing him he’s gone to Hull , which can only mean he’s gone for the money as far as i can see .Wonder if he has his release clause in place ?

I’m happy to see the back of Diame. With players like him, he had the ability, the strength & the energy to play at the highest level, but it is small margins which separate the goo from the great and he has proved beyond doubt that he will only ever be goodish. As well as that small detail, as a club we Don’t need a player like that who is a loose cannon with his mouth, thinks he is better than the club he is plays for and is paid by…….. and you don’t need anymore than two or three players with a corrosive attitude around the club as it is not good for team morale.

Anyway, how much game time will he get with Kouyate and Song now at the club?
His sale although cheap was good business. Players like him are creatures of habit and he’ll soon be kicking off again.

When he first arrived his heart was with our club ,last year he was not interested in anything but money ,now he has moved to a second class team will live in a run down area but he can count his money, maybe more players should be on a contract linked with performance and playing time and give us a reason to carry on supporting our great club

Does he drop noble or koyuote for song? Or drop zarate( not his signing!) n push noble into Nolans spot?

Very very limited player at this level. Runs out of gas at 70 minutes, dribbles in dangerous areas, loses possession for too much, never scores, never creates, head down runs into blind alleys…Hull City have so much to look forward too !!!!

Interesting piece. The enigma that is Diame. Was he given every opportunity? Was he played in the right position.who did he have around him? Er O’Neil. Taylor. Mmmm real quality. Nolan. Where was Nolan? Er poaching?
so, we bring in Kayoute, another Senegal player. And Sakho. Don’t suppose that might bring out the best in Diame? Nope. We’d rather have that star errr whatsisname oh yes Amaltifano. Wow. Top man who was on loan at WBA. Can’t wait. Also can’t wait for the Hull game. Yes. That little team who have in their midfield errrr Huddlestone Ince, Livermore and errrr now Diame. Yes, a nice easy stroll. And 3 points in the bag!
I just can’t help but see another angle!

” a run down area ” and you come from Newcastle – Hmmm better take a long look out your window matey.
We will see who is the second class team when we meet soon.
We were FA Cup Final runners up and qualified for Europa -how did your team do ??

“now he has moved to a second class team will live in a run down area”

Obviously never been to Hull or indeed West Ham (now that is a dump). FA Cup runners up and second class team will be comfortably above the hammers come the end of the season

Mo Diame is brilliant when he wants to be as we saw when he scored against Man U, and I have been very sad for him for a long while because he had stopped trying, but when someone gets to that stage, well they have to move on. If there was no solution to the problem he had to go. No, there’s issues there and reasons why Arsenal never followed up with their interest. I don’t think Hull is a step up for him, maybe he can lift them?

  • Bonzo Hammer says:

He was hardly played in his preferred and best position, spent alot of time on the bench, no wonder he left, manager useless !!!

    • notanyoldiron says:

Spot on Bonzo. Diame is a confidence player. Bfs gave him none. Bruce will get him playing. Unfortunately, for us, on the 15th

  • The Cat says:

Despite ALL we’ve seen from Diame, ALL that has been said by him (apparently feels a top six side would suit him better and were banging down the door for his signature), some of us still want him here?!?
You honestly couldn’t make it up!

    • notanyoldiron says:

Cat, Given a choice of Diame or Amalfitano it has to be Mo every time

      • The Cat says:

Mo flattered to deceive on a regular basis & is a bit of a deluded big time charlie & mercenary… Proven. Morgan on the other hand showed pace, skill and aggression at West Brom, created goals as well as scored them. If he can do half as much again, he will have surpassed Mo’ already. It’s Morgan for me I’m afraid.
