Potential Hammer? Forgotten Tottenham winger

Aaron LennonSo Sam Allardyce stays as West Ham United manager, and has been given twenty million quid to spend in the summer silly season the lucky sausage.

In a new Forever West Ham feature called ‘Potential Hammers’ we will be sieving through all these rumours that come with being a Premier League club, sussing the fact from the fiction.

First up, North London wide boy Aaron Lennon (seriously what is the slit in his eyebrow all about?) the Hammers are said to be in a battle with Sunderland for the Spurs wide man.

Who are ya?

Aaron Justin Lennon has been a two man club, starting at Leeds United, the speedy winger impressed enough in his two year professional stint at Elland Road even becoming the youngest ever player to wear sponsored boots when he signed a contract with Adidas at aged 14. Thanks to Leeds financial problems Lennon was transferred to Tottenham for a fee believed to be around £1million.

Lennon has often been compared to Theo Walcott playing in the same position; the winger has similar attributes, with blistering speed and an eye for goal scoring 27 goals in his Spurs career including a couple goals at the Boleyn Ground in his time.

Now though since the departure of Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur the North London club now has money to burn and the Leeds born man has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane meaning it is now likely the winger will leave North London.

Big Sam, Spend some money!

It is tough to predict just how much the Tottenham bad boy will cost, with both source seemingly not having a clue either, with no figure or sum mentioned by either the Metro or Sports Direct news. But given the relationship the Hammers have with the Spurs board, you’d have to expect that Tottenham will try to get the Hammers to spend big bucks. Especially given the fact they bought him for such a small sum they will look to make big profit on the former Leeds man. With a budget of £20 million you’d have to think the Hammers would have to spend at least a quarter of that sum if they want to get Lennon to grace the Boleyn Ground turf.

Believability factor

Three out of five – The Hammers will have other position to fill before they sign ANOTHER winger, although he would give the Hammers another option on the wing. Allardyce will want to strengthen up front and in defence with his balance. But with the board expressing Big Sam will have to play a more expansive brand of football next season, Mr. Allardyce may see Lennon as an improvement on Matthew Jarvis.

Game changer?

It is often said that the Hammers are little one dimensional, and they are; get it out wide and whip the ball into big Andy Carroll’s head. But with the arrival of Lennon it would see a change in style, Lennon isn’t known for his crossing ability, he is more your get to the by-line and drill it in. His arrival would allow Sam to change it up if needed, and that can only be a good thing. I think should he arrival which is by all means not a given it would be a very astute signing by Sam Allardyce and the board.

Come on you Irons!

But he wont get rid of the ex-Bolton players!!!!!!
Plus he has been given £20m.
So we can expect to see a striker who is injured
brought in, and a lot of freebies. DEJA VU?
Oh, anyone heard about Kevin Davies coming to us,
he has still got a few years left in him. How old is he,
    38/39?

Shame to see Colison let go, what a shame he has a really bad knee , I always enjoyed watching him play, struggled the last couple of years. I hope he can get a new club, no doubt a medical will be a big problem, but hopefully he can look good in the championship and get a club.
Maybe we will get another youngster coming through, Moncur and flamini are both looking good.
Good to see young Potts get a new deal, he’s another one for the future.
Lets see who we get, I see Aaron lennon is being linked, Obviously loads of pace, but my tot friends say has no final ball, we have loads of them already.
I think we need a berkovic type of player, and a couple of pacey full backs.
