West Ham have earmarked Chelsea’s Michael Essien as a replacement for Mohamed Diame, should they lose the Senegalese international this month.
Throughout last season, rumours surrounded Diame and the £3.5 million release fee clause he has in his contract and they’ve surfaced again with Liverpool reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Diame hasn’t been as consistent as last season but is still one of West Ham’s major threats and would be a major blow to the Hammers if he were to leave Upton Park.
Essien is no longer considered first choice at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with a move away.
