Things are getting desperate for West Ham; if we don’t get a new striker or two in by Chelsea then the panic will really set it.
A transfer rumour that refuses to go away involves Genoa’s Alberto Gilardino.
The 31-year-old, according to Tuttomercatoweb in Italy, is interesting Sam Allardyce as he tries to improve his striking options.
The Italian international admitted, at the start of the Serie A season, that he wanted to leave Genoa and this may help the Hammers in their pursuit.
Gilardino has made 19 Serie A appearances, this season and has notched eight goals in the process.

Shouldn’t we clear any signings with Roberto Martinez first? It may save a bit of time. We were hijacked over Ivan Ramis (when Martinez was at Wigan) and now the same has happened with Lukaku and Traore. Has Allardyce upset him?
i still think the owners “scatter gun” approach to making signings is fundamentally flawed.
Imagine you’re Gilardino right now. Your agent has been contacted by West Ham about a move. After a bit of investigation you find out that West Ham have first contacted – ba, defoe, jelavic, traore, fletcher, etc etc. How do you feel? Special?
That you’re the last name on the list! That you’re not really desired as much as youd like to be.
You’ll not be part of a grander plan, where your contribution will be at the forefront of success of the team.
In fact, you might be offered a chance in the premier league on a very good wage. but that is most likely to be playing second fiddle to carroll and nolan. in a team that isn’t creating sackfills of chances.
Then imagine that you bite, and you think wtf i’ll take a chance. after negotiations with the club, your agent tells you actually your take home pay is signifcantly lower than you’d expect. the dates are tighter. and you have to undergo a medical. … fk! ok, i’ll go that far. Then at the medical stage, west ham are delaying for some reason. After some investigations you find that they have their hands in a few other pots and are waiting to see if they can get a deal for Lambert before they sign on the dotted line. … you think to yourself?! fk it! Not worth the hasstle of uprooting my family, leaving a beautiful ligurian seaside town, to risk sitting on the bench for a club that seem to be using me as a pawn in their game for Lambert. i’m an italian international. ive got nothing to prove. in fact, i’m better than their nolan’s and carroll’s. .. deal off.
i personally would have had Gilardino (near) top of my list in the summer. He’s not expensive. He scores goals. He’s got class. He’s available. Can play as a lone striker. but he my kind of player, and i’d put him in my team week in week out. I dont think he’s Sam’s kind of player. .. And there lies the difference between me and Sam!! I’d buy players who can play, not players who are tall, strong and clumsey.
