Rumours have been circulating recently that Everton defender John Heitinga will soon be winging his way to West Ham. But is he worth it?
Firstly, Heitinga can play at either centre back or right back – we could use somebody with a bit of versatility as when we are short at the back, we’re painfully exposed. With both Winston Reid and James Tomkins out at the moment, you can definitely see why we’re being linked to a central defender!
The former Dutch international got Everton’s player of the season award for the 11/12 campaign. However, since the introduction of defensive duo Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka, he hasn’t had too much of a role to play. He’s barely featured for Everton in the last two seasons so would probably be quite a bit cheaper now than the £6 million the Toffees originally shelled out for him. He also recently revealed that he has rejected Everton’s offer of a new contract, and so it looks like he definitely wants a new challenge.
It would normally worry me a bit if a defender wasn’t deemed good enough by another club in our division, but I do think Distin and Jagielka have done a sterling job at Everton (my fantasy football points agree) and so I don’t think this can really be held against Heitinga.
I would say he’s definitely worth a punt, as he’s an experienced player who deserves a second chance at life in the Premier League. And I bet it would be a lot more action packed for him in the back four at West Ham!

Both Of our first choice defenders are out. We’re left with hoofer collins and Joey obrien and CB and you don’t even think we need one. Damn.
Evertonian here and I have to say Heitinga on a cheap would be great for you. Although many Everton fans think hes poor I believe he is far from. To get the most out of him however it seems you have to play him as a defensive mid.
Probably a Diarra replacement as an DC/DMC.We can find a lot worst players than him but I prefer a younger player.
