A festive West Ham poem

Carroll against ArsenalTwas the game after Christmas, when all about the club

It seemed most of the players, were thinking about the pub.

The results had been poor and the performances bad,

Fans across the world were feeling rather sad.

We were at home to Arsenal with no hope of a point

But surely the team could not further disjoint.

With few of them scoring, our games had been dull.

Ahead of the busy schedule there was plenty to mull.

Who would we sign and where would we boost?

“A striker Big Sam”, don’t be goose.

Would Carroll be back, will Winston return?

Is our season at a loss like the Ashes urn?

Each man needs to stand up and take a bit of pride,

To pull up their socks and work hard for the side.

We’ll shout from the stands and in bars all the same,

We’ll support the players and call them by name.

Now Nolan! Now Noble! Now Cole and Morrison,

Go Downing! Go Diame! Go Reid and Collison.

To the edge of the box. To the by-line to cross.

Have a shot, take a punt, I don’t give a toss.

We’re in need of the points, and the situation’s a worry,

They need to turn this around, and they better well hurry.

But a cup run and survival will see the New Year bright

So “Happy Boxing Day” to all, and to the team “find some fight”.
