Will a cauldron of hate welcome West Ham’s former captain?

Scott ParkerWith the exception of Millwall, the team I dislike the most is Tottenham Hotspur. It’s because of a guy at work, who I do not get on with at all, is a mad Spurs fan.

He has the posters on the wall of the lunchroom and a flag as well. We have never seen eye to eye about any thing with work and give me half a chance and I would sack him, but he has been at work for as long as me (6 years) and I don’t think that will happen. We have nothing in common except for our dislike of each other.

So when I saw Scott Parker was leaving West Ham to go to Tottenham, I was mad. My mate at work let me know all about it, as well as being relegated I thought it was a kick in the teeth. But then I thought about it a little closer, at it from Scott’s view, he was facing playing in the Championship, perhaps for the rest of his career and a big pay cut. The other option was to play in Europe, perhaps win a cup or two and get paid the same or more.

If you look at it from his angle, the move seemed like a good one for him. We got four very good years out of Parker, and I doubt that many people could say that he never gave it 100%, you could never say he would back away from a challenge. We need to think of what he did for the club not how he left; we should remember the man not the departure.

He was the shining light at a bad time for the club and we should thank him for that. One thing we should think of as well is that we did get a good price for his transfer and that helped when it came to the purchase of players, including six months later when we snapped up Ravel Morrison.

As we play Fulham this weekend we will see Scott return to Upton Park. So I encourage you all not to boo the man, but remember what he did over the four years instead of how he left.

Mr Shane Haddow. Referring to your article, it is apparent that you are quite underdeveloped up where it matters.

Great article. Scott shouldn’t be booed. Remember what he done for us! Need to start getting behind the team at this tough stage, not booing them off at half time too! Sing up west ham! The TBL singing “We are West Ham’s claret and blue army” against Chelsea, was real support, just like it used to be! COYI

I hope he doesn’t get booed but I am sure the dregs masquerading as supporters that we seem to attract these days will boo him

  • hammer52 says:

They will be to busy booing there own team terrible support at the moment, if your going to boo stay away your not wanted

IT WILL BE PATHETIC IF ANYONE BOO’S HIM…BUT I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT SOME WILL AS TONY HAS SAID. HE WAS GOOD FOR WEST HAM AND PEOPLE SHOULD REMEMBER THAT

Scott Parker was never our captain was he? He should have been but Upson (undeservedly) had the armband while Parker was with us.

He was against West Brom. He did the manager’s job at half time and we pulled off an amazing recovery. Upson was injured thankfully.

Should never have booed Scotty even when he joined the Spuds carried us for at least 2 seasons oh for an inspirational player like him now !!

This is a very poor article. All for honest debate but basing a piece on a hatred for a colleague ! I’m sure Scott Parker will be booed by a small section of the fans but those are the fair-weather ones out 10 minutes before the end win or lose. He did his best in a poorly managed side and we went down. The absolute future of our club is at stake here. Three key games so for goodness sake get behind us.

    • Shane Haddow says:

I would like to make it clear. I don’t want people to boo him, he did a lot of good and I hope people cheer not support him.

I thought it was a disgrace when he got booed last season. Sat with my 7 year old son on one side “Dad, why are they booing Scott Parker? He played really well for us” and my 70-year old father on the other side “Are they booing Parker? What’s wrong with some people these days”. Pretty much sums it up. Just felt sh1t after the hard graft he put in for us. As it was on TV, also made Hammers fans look like a bunch of w@nkers. Selective (or no) memory too. Joe Cole gets a heroes welcome in a Liverpool shirt and even scores against us; nobody seems to mind that he was off to West London when we went down.

People should save the boos for players that have really let the club down, not ones that worked their nuts off when all around them did sweet FA, except take their inflated salary home.

I don’t think Scotty could care two hoots what we think of him – he doesn’t play for us now and we should concentrate on supporting our own team but you just know that he is likely to bite us on the bum and score the winner against us tomorrow. Really hope not.

  • Richard says:

He may have captained us occasionally but he should not be described as our former captain. He gave 100% and was one of our best players of the 2000’s. But when oh when will those idiots who boo our former players realise that it only spurs them on and they end up scoring: Lampard, Terry, Defoe, Shelvey have all done so – hope its not Scotty next.
