Time for West Ham to forgive and forget?

Jermain DefoeThis whole Jermain Defoe situation reminds me a bit of Charlie Simpson. He started out his music career in chart topping boyband Busted, and so when he moved on to a rock band and then to solo music, people didn’t want to know. They questioned his credibility, and even though he’s a talented musician, they couldn’t get over what he’d done in the past.

And so on to Defoe. I don’t like what he did to the club and how quick he handed in a transfer request when we got relegated, but I think we’re going to have to get over that and, if the situation arises, welcome him back to the club.

Even if we were to get him on loan until the end of the season, I think we’re crying out for someone like him – a proven goal scorer. With the Andy Carroll saga getting more and more ridiculous, I think we need a proper back up striker. I love Carlton Cole as a person, but sadly he’s not the one to get us out of this predicament. IĀ stillĀ cannot believe that we bought Stewart Downing but didn’t get anyone else in if – and when – Carroll got injured.

I also think that Defoe’s TV appearance was very well timed for the January transfer window. With him saying he still loved the club, it was like a transparent ploy to get the fans to forgive him before his potential return. Am I being too cynical? Probably.

Defoe scored 29 goals in 93 appearances for us, and I think many people are too caught up in him being a ‘Judas’ to remember that. He is a bloody decent player and we’re not winning games at the moment. I’m getting so fed up of 0-0 draws!

I think we need to put the ill feelings aside and welcome him back if he does return. The life of a football fan is a fickle one – I’m sure people won’t be complaining when he starts scoring goals!

What do you think? Would you welcome him back to the club, or do you want him to stay away after how he left? Leave a comment or tweet me at @alwaysintune.

Have him back in a heartbeat! 20 goal a season striker, lethal, something we’ve been missing for a while. And forget 0-0 draws, I’m fed up of losses!

Jesus wept, the bloke knows he is on his way out at the spuds, he wants a move to a club that will keep paying him a wage while he plays out his dotage….is it any wonder he is saying sorry now. he made fools of us once before don’t let him do it again, we need to go forward not backwards.
