Life as a West Ham fan on Twitter

TwitterThose of you who do follow me on Twitter will know that when there’s a West Ham match on, I seem to go into a tweet frenzy. And I’m not the only one. I’ve actually had to warn my friends ‘in real life’ that they shouldn’t follow me, as they’d only get annoyed.

Now Twitter is a funny place if you’re a West Ham fan. If the team wins then it’s a hub of excitement with everyone being really nice to each other, praising Sam Allardyce and his tactics, loving the players… It’s just a bloody nice place to converse with people really. Especially after the Spurs win – it was like a party!

But when we lose… You don’t want to go on there when we lose. The same people who were praising Big Sam and his players the week before are the ones slamming him and calling for his head. People who normally have friendly debates and disagreements on a week where we’ve won or drawn start picking on each other and not understanding the other point of view at all.

This recently happened to me when I said I preferred James Tomkins and Winston Reid to James Collins and Reid – it was as if I’d said I was going to support Chelsea! I got sustained abusive tweets from a few people, when all I wanted was to have a discussion about it. Oh and, it hasn’t gone unnoticed that those same people were slating Collins after our performance against Chelsea!

What I’m trying to say is, we’re all on Twitter for the same reason. We all want to speak about the team we love (or loathe sometimes). There is no need to abuse another fan if they have a different opinion, or tweet the players and slate them. They were there. They KNOW they’ve played badly – they don’t need thousands of people reminding them repeatedly. No wonder most of the players aren’t on there!

Maybe I should start avoiding Twitter when West Ham are on… But where would be the fun in that!? What do you think of a West Ham fan’s life on twitter? Leave a comment or tweet me at @alwaysintune.

Or get off twitter and down to Upton Park when we’re playing instead?

Don’t do twitter mate, to many dickheads have to much to say but only behind a keypad and not face to face, so better of without it .
