Arsenal chasing West Ham ace

Winston ReidJanuary could become a transfer window where the main focus of West Ham United is keeping hold of their star players rather than adding new ones.

I wrote an article earlier in the week about possible signings in January, but hearing of interest in our players has made me view the transfer window in a new light.

Arsenals interest in Winston Reid has got every West Ham fan worried about the possibility of losing last years ‘Hammer of the Year’.

The importance of the New Zealander to the defence is huge, and five clean sheets in nine league games is evidence that the ever-present Reid is as solid as any defender in the league right now!

It’s of paramount importance that David Gold and David Sullivan ensure we keep hold of the defender and resist any bids. Losing someone of his significance would jeopardise our whole season, with goals proving hard to come by, the defence and Reid in particular are the rock of the team, and I feel losing that rock would put us in a realistic relegation battle.

If things did progress and Reid was to leave, I think anything below 15 million would be terrible business. I wouldn’t sell at all. With the Olympic Stadium move on the horizon taking such a risk half way through the season should be out of the question.

I hope Sam Allardyce can ensure that we keep our players and add new recruits if possible. The season could depend on what happens in January.

Just how important is Winston Reid? How much is he worth in this crazy transfer market? Who could replace the New Zealander?
