How do West Ham shape up in front of goal?

Carlton ColeWest Ham are said to be struggling to get shots away at goal during the early part of the season. We all know that we were struggling to miss the target let alone hit it! But, how are we so far in comparison to our fellow Premier League sides?

West Ham have managed 83 shots in their first 7 Premier League matches. This gives them an average of 11.9 shots per game.

Comparing this figure to the other 19 Premier League sides, The Hammers are certainly not sprinkling the goal with shots but have perhaps a smaller cause for concern over others.

West Ham sit 14th out of the 20 sides in terms of shots per game. This meaning that 6 sides (West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace, Hull City and Fulham) have been less than testing of opposition goalkeepers and defenders.

Tottenham Hotspur lead the way with 131 shots (18.7pg), Fulham the lowest with just 58 total shots.

This results gets me thinking, how many of these clubs have scored less goals than West Ham? Making them more prolific at taking their fewer chances.

The answer, I’m happy to report, is NONE. West Ham’s seven goals actually places them above Tottenham (who have the most shots in the league) and Hull who have had a greater number of shots also.

The 3 goals versus Tottenham helps out that statistic no doubt, however, the Spurs fans ( along with the six sides with fewer shots and goals) certainly have more to worry about as they have had the most shots and have managed just 6 goals.

Can we claim another victory over Spurs?
