West Ham goalkeeperWest Ham United goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has joined AFC Bournemouth on an initial 3-month loan deal.

He becomes the second player in a week to head south after Jack Collison also joined the Cherries.

Henderson’s West Ham career has never got going after joining from struggling Portsmouth in January 2012, he is yet to make a single league appearance for the Hammers.

The summer arrival of Spanish goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel from Real Betis has also seen the former Bristol City man move down the pecking order to third choice in the Hammers squad.

The odd League Cup appearance hasn’t convinced Sam Allardyce and subsequent loan spells at Ipswich Town and now Bournemouth have followed.

Time might be running out on Henderson’s stay in East London. His performances when given the chance have been lacking in confidence and communication. The 4-1 League Cup defeat against Wigan Athletic at Upton Park last year was a match he will want to forget, giving away a penalty as West Ham got embarrassed in front of their home support.

With Jussi Jaaskelainen and Adrian as the West Ham glove-men there is no room for Henderson and a move full-time to the Championship could work out best for all parties.

However, there is still hope for the twenty-five-year-old and playing football will only help his development.  His future at The Boleyn Ground is uncertain but there is time to resurrect his stagnating career.
