A bullet dodged for West Ham?

Loic RemyThere is no doubt that Loic Remy was just the sort of striker that West Ham United were looking for at the moment. I’m sure Sam Allardyce certainly looked at a deal for the Frenchman, but obviously, at the moment, the player comes with a bit of baggage.

I’ve changed my mind so many times on this player, that thankfully, Newcastle United have made my decision for me, as they signed him on a loan deal on Monday. He almost signed for the Geordies in the January transfer window, but opted for QPR, clearly because they offered more money in wages at the 11th hour.

Despite relegation to the Championship, Remy was a shining light in the second half of Rangers season. Quick and skillful, with a good finish at the end of it, I bet Harry Redknapp thought he had found their saviour.

There were no fingers pointing at Remy or his attitude, blaming him for their plight. However, towards the end of the season, Remy was arrested, interviewed and bailed for the rape of a female in her 30’s. He was arrested with two other people, and remains on bail until September. Being arrested does not mean the man is guilty, being arrested is just a means for Police to obtain evidence and investigate the allegation.

Remy is obviously denying the allegation, hence he was bailed, but the problem is, he is an expensive player, and posed a massive risk to the club. If Remy is innocent, then Newcastle have got a good player. If he is charged, then it opens up a massive can of worms. And with the Olympic Stadium on the horizon, and the eyes of the world on us, we can’t afford to have any bad press. The simple option is to not take the risk on a player, who if found guilty at Court, could face several years in prison.

And at the end of the day, if Remy is guilty of this horrendous crime, I wouldn’t want the clubs name tarnished. I wouldn’t want to watch a rapist in my clubs colours, the colours that the likes of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Trevor Brooking and Julian Dicks have worn.

WEVE GOT ANDY CARROLL KING OF ALL GEORDIES YOUVE GOT A RAPIST OH YEAH WELL HAVE HAVE A BIGGER GROUND THAN YOU GOOD LUCK MAGGOTS

      • Slo5 says:

Bigger ground which you’ll never fill lol

      • Chris says:

Andy Carroll king of all Geordies give me a break, greedy man who’s head was turned, only to find the love of his life had moved on and didn’t want him anymore, let him mope around for you, when his heart clearly isn’t in it !!!

      • Daz says:

Maybe you’ll fill it as well, my guess is probably not though.

  • Dave says:

I totally agree with you with regard to the morals of the club, I fir one don’t want to line the pocket of someone if and still if he is guilty.
I would be surprised if Sam and Sullivan have not been down the road of looking at loans etc, but probably didn’t add up.
I think Sam has really been caught out in this transfer window, when you look at the business that has been done, there hasn’t really been any.
The Carrol deal was done last year, we have a spanish goalkeeper who no one has heard off, lets wait and see on that one, Henderson will go out so same numbers there between the sticks.
We have a left back towards the back end of his career, although I am sure he will be a solid addition.
In my view we should have got Carlton Cole on another deal, then found another one with the pressure off, we could then loan Cole out or get a £500k fee for him when we have a replacement.
The players we have tried for all know that no matter what happens they are on the bench when Carroll is fit, Sam will not be flexible and change the formation, even though we are crying out for pace up front away from home.
If I was a player approached by West Ham you know they are now desperate, add another 20k a week on wages, we are desperate and the clubs know now.
Players will come for the right deal.
If we want a like for like replacement for Carroll to play a bit part, maybe we can pinch Zamora back off QPR, Harry is making sweepoing changes so a deal might be in offering, or maybe nick Crouch off Stoke.
Also I still thinka deal could be done for Lambert.
I see that Grant Holt got off to a flyer with his new club, we offered £6.5m last year, and he went for £2m!
Just two suggestions that sprang to miind, after all Sam wants asomeone over 6ft with little pace !
I still also think we should do a deal and get Defoe back, he will score goals and add some pace, if only, does anyone remember pace up front for the hammers?

    • Steven JG says:

You say we cry out for pace then suggest we buy Zamora or Crouch !

    • Len Scannell says:

That’s all fine but had we signed a player like Remy he would be played wide right. Not as a back-up for Andy Carroll. That’s what the club are looking for. A wide right striker and a young back-up for AC will come on loan or Sam has decided to persevere with Maiga.

Crouch, Holt and Zamora are just players you know and not the one that will come out of left field that you and I have probably never heard of.

  • Lee Robinson says:

Possibly, I would have left Julian Dicks out of the greats list. An honest enough pro, but Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer he isn’t!

  • Brad says:

Fat Sam is a joke, the man lives in the past and can’t see past the big man up front philosophy! I am a toon fan but alway liked west ham and respected they way they approach the game and the great players they have produced over the years.
Remy is a bit of a gamble but he is quality and if not guilty would be great addition to any prem club.

  • wes c says:

Totally agree with Dave , as usual we huff and puff if it is all true then end up with a two bob that no one wants !!! Carroll is a great signing but who wants to play second fiddle and if they do are they just in for the wages !!!! Defoe would be another good buy but can’t see it happening so we will probably end up with a Baldock type player that will cover when needed . Same as every season !!!!

  • lewis says:

I know your saying West ham dodged a bullet, but if we signed him we would all be excited just to think of the skill, pace and quality shot of this perfect play maker. Also it wouldn’t be giving us a bad name, it would give Remy a bad name. Now the striker saga will continue, who will be playing along side Carrol IF ANYONE !!!. could even just be press stirring thing to let them be heard. Such as the Werder bremen player we have been linked with I saw him on youtube and he was some class on grass. But now im hearing this is the first he’s heard about the link and BFS hasn’t been in touch or even made an offer. So will we be playing with the same old one striker up front, or not only time will tell.

  • jim says:

im sure bfs wants to sign many players but either the owners have no cash or this fair play thing that i aint got a clue about
it does seem that after the early signings its all gone a bit flat being positive theres still 3 weeks til the window closes i can see us getting a few loans in the last week but it seems that the owners are trying to do things on the cheap again a bit like when avram grant was manager but i cant see bfs suffering the owners wanting to do things on the cheap with him in charge
even loan signings cost mad money even without fees i think theres other positions aswell as forwards need strengthening heres hoping we can sign a few before the 31st

  • Graham says:

I like West Ham but I had to laugh at the ‘tarnish the name’ bit. Are you aware of Andy Carrol’s police record and the fact he broke a team mates jaw?

    • Flamineo says:

Yeah, cos two blokes in a punch-up and rape are as bad as each other right?

      • Slo5 says:

Innocent until proven guilty. Nothing has been proved against Remy, Carroll has been proven guilty…

      • Graham says:

Of course not but don’t try to take moral high ground with nonsense about the ‘good name’ of West Ham.

  • yatesy says:

do we really believe we are trying to sign a centre forward we have been linked with that many we are a joke have been a supporter 60years thw owners are having a lend of us tell us the truth

  • Fozzy says:

You query Remy yet sign Carroll….pot kettle black

  • ivan murphy says:

bullet its a bit of a joke now that we have nobody signed to partner carroll he would have been perfect

  • Graham says:

You may well have dodged a bullet, and you are moving into a big stadium, and you do have Andy Carroll. Trouble is you’ll never fill your stadium (which is in a right shit hole by the way!) and will have massive debt problems in the near future, and Andy Carroll only signed because no one else wanted him!

  • jake johnson says:

“the eyes of the world on us” really? Dont flatter yourself

  • Johne says:

They will sign someone I’m sure. I like the latest link – manuel Fernandez. Assuming it turns out to be true, he’s a decent player and can play anywhere across midfield and w back to goal. He’s not strictly a fwd, but given we have Maiga I’m not sure we need a 100% striker. I’d love to sign two more strikers but this FFP thing might have us in a bind there. Anyway, when squads announced shortly all bets are off. We might even end up w Ba from Chelsea or someone from Man City on loan…..

  • French Geordie says:

It will pain you to know that Remy passed a medical at West Ham last Thursday before turning you down for Newcastle! Andy Carroll was asked to come to the training ground to sweet talk him into signing but probably sold Newcastle instead considering he didn’t want to sign for you either!

    • Graham says:

In that case it just proves that Remy must have the hots with ugly women then.

      • thetoonrme says:

        lol…lets see
        Cheryle Cole or…………Jo Brande

One gorgeous toon chick and the other a looker for your lass no doubt…lol

    • blimey says:

Dear oh dear French Geordie, who in the world can understand your accent…..???
You certainly ain’t making any sense here!!!

      • thetoonrme says:

Coming from a half arsed squeeky voiced southern pussy that isnt really an insult to us northerners..lol.

All players sign contracts for money reasons rather than football ones, just look at mandy carroll for that and he only came to west ham cos we wouldnt come in for him.

Wasnt Bobby Moore also a petty criminal wearing your shirt?

        • Chelmo Hammer says:

Well the ‘soft southerners’ are the ones who run your club because nobody else can. From Mike Ashley, to Pardew and that joke of a man, Joe Kinnear.

Then you have your Argentine International who’s desperate to leave, and a load of Frenchmen with no guts for a fight. But then this just sounds like Newcastle all over.

Enjoy having a rapist represent your club, and we all know you would have had Carroll, the real reason, which Pardew admitted, was you couldn’t afford him.

  • Irons fan says:

Why would Newcastle want andy Carroll? He is a Geordie Englishman not a foreign French poof
