In a recent Q&A with David Gold on Twitter he told how the West Ham budget would be spent on improving our attack, a number of targets have emerged over the week, these range from a £1m bid for Peter Odemwingie to a £7m bid for Fabio Quagliarella at Juventus, there is also speculation about Loic Remy, Rickie Lambert and a loan bid for Matej Vydra.
Peter Odemwingie
Most football fans, especially those at the Hawthorns, think that Peter Odemwingie is an absolute idiot; the drama he stirred up in January was laughable. However he certainly is a good finisher, and has proved himself to be a Premier league striker, he could be past his peak now though. In my view he would be worth a punt at £1m if we can’t secure other targets.
Fabio Quagliarella
The Juventus frontman has proved himself as a top goalscorer in the Italian League, the Champions League and internationally, but at the age of 30 the £7m price tag placed on him would certainly be a risk should we place a bid. In the past two seasons Quagliarella has scored 13 goals in 50 games a very poor turnout for a finisher, considering he adds very little to a side unlike Andy Carroll, who wins a lot of balls in the air and can hold up the play well.
Loic Remy
Remy has an abundance of pace, much needed in the West Ham side at the current moment in time, Remy was one of very few stand out players for QPR last season scoring 6 goals in 14 games including a superb finish at Upton Park in February. Remy would likely cost between £5-£7m, in my view this is the best option we currently have, I think he would be the perfect addition to the side. Obviously, we would need to await the outcome of the court case.
Rickie Lambert
Although Lambert had a superb season last season, he would not be a good signing for West Ham, he is too similar to Andy Carroll, we should be looking at strikers that compliment Andy’s game rather than replicating it, I also highly doubt that Southampton would let their star man leave for less than £5m.
Matej Vydra
Vydra was one of 13 loans signings at Vicarage Road last season, and was definitely Watford’s stand out player. Vydra’s movement and finishing is something that a lot of Premier League defences would fear next season should he sign for the Hammers. However it is highly unlikely that Udinese would allow Vydra to leave on loan, but they have claimed that they would consider bids in the region of £10m, and it is clear that West Ham don’t have that sort of money to spend.
MAIGA
how about the gomis guy fro lyon that newcastle are looking at?
We need to bring in either Gomis Remy or Vydra….
Ofemwingie is a laughing stock and remy is potentially a convicted rapist I don’t want either associated with my club thanks very much
Remy is on bail for rape. He doesn’t even return to the police station until September which is after the window slams shut. QPR got all they deserved with him after stealing him from Newcastle as did he when QPR got relegated.
Amiga talent is at home could do worse
I agree give Maiga a go, if not go for Vydra
Shame we don’t give our own homegrown talent a try, like in the old days
I agree maiga is good at upton park last season he was great considering he was settling in! And his friendly profermence. In germany was outstanding
go for vydra if it breaks the bank to get him so what if he comes good it will be money well spent.
personally I would go for demba ba on loan or permanent!
You won’t get wingie for under £2M, he wants to go to London and you’ll do.
It should have been Bony & Ba instead of AC, then this conversation would not be taking place.
Emmanuel emineke is the latest name to be linked he’s powerful quick and a good finisher by the looks of it looks in the Defoe mould something we are crying out for
charlie austin for 3-4mill
kevin doyle for 2mill
gives us 4 good forwards there with carroll and maiga and the 2 signings would be cheap on wages
then 4-5mill to spend on a winger like
mcgeady/mclean/hoilet/andros townsend/agbonlahor;mcmanaman/sonclair/matt phillips
KALOU or VYDRA for me.
Sorry but kevin doyle not good enough. Charlie Austin maybe, but he has a dodgy knee so I dont think we’ll going there!
I would like mcgeady, snodgrass or sinclair though.
This just in……West Ham are on the verge of signing a frontman from the Belgian league for 6.5£ million
