What might have been for West Ham?

Zavon HinesAfter hearing the news that former West Ham academy graduate Zavon Hines had been released by Bradford, it made me think what could have been.

A player that possessed much promise and one we had high hopes for, not only at domestic level but internationally too. In the summer of 2011 Zavon turned down the chance to stay with the Hammers instead signing a contract with Burnley, a move the player must now regret?

Since leaving East London Zavon’s career has plummeted; initially I thought letting him go to Championship rivals at the time Burnley would prove disastrous for us, but it appears to be the complete opposite and now he lays a far stretch from Premier League glory we hoped he would achieve.

With any luck Zavon can get his career back on track and hopefully his next suitors can give him that.

Sidenote: Could this been seen as a look into the future for Robert Hall?

Good luck to you Zavon

Zav was always alright for us. Moments of brilliance, but he weren’t consistent enough. He’s a good lad though and hopefully he will find a club soon (Southend?) He can do a job in the lower two leagues.

He will always be remembered as a member of the history-makers though, especially for his display at Wigan.

As much as every fan is entitled to their opinions, the manager and the staff are best qualified to decide whether a player has a future at a club. They work with them day in day out. They know all their strengths, weaknesses and limitations and also how good their attitude is.

As much as some fans thought Hines should have been retained (and now some fans think we should have offered Hall an improved contract to keep him), Big Sam an the coaches are best placed to make that decision. And it has been proved right.

It is a shame that Hines hasn’t been able to take his opportunities at Burnley and Bradford. Sometimes you need to experience the hard times to appreciate the good times.

And against millwall i do feel him and stanislas had enough for whu if we had the right manager if they wer manged by pards or curbs things would be different they wernt given to much of a chance really unlike sears who just did not have it at all

He didn’t turn us down, allardyce got rid of all the youngsters in 2011.

He got injured and that ruined his pace. Sadly a loss he never really managed to find a workaround for.

    Simple really

Was never going to make the grade unfortunately, along with Stanislas, Sears etc. The jury will be out on the decision to let Rob Hall too. I was disappointed we let Baldock go when we did, I felt he had an intelligence and sharpness that was promising, but you can never tell.

Big Sam HASN’T been proved wrong in his judgement of players their abilities & attitudes yet!

What some of our supporters needs to understand also is that these players left of their OWN free will.

I look at other Premiership teams and their highly rated youngsters (many who are BETTER than our own) and they are brought along slowly and supporters of “their” teams AREN’T screaming for these youngsters inclusion as they seem to understand what many of OUR supporters DON’T. Premiership ready and Development squad ready are two entirely different things!

We truly need to catch up!
