West Ham rekindle interest in striker

Rickie LambertThe latest name to be linked as a potential strike partner for Andy Carroll is Southampton forward Rickie Lambert. The Saints forward scored 15 goals last season and looked a constant threat for the South Coast club, come January time their was speculation linking us to forward; and it now seems that the papers have jumped back on the bandwagon.

For the past four years Lambert has proved his goal-scoring and leadership abilities, helping his club from League 1 up to the Premiership, and although many doubted his Premier League credentials; he most certainly proved any doubters wrong with consistently good performances last season.

It baffles me to think that he hasn’t got an England call-up, considering we are lacking goals you would think it’s a no-brainer for Roy Hodgson to give him a chance.

To hear the news that Rickie is apparently back on the West Ham agenda doesn’t surprise me, after all he would suit Sam Allardyce’s preferred style of play and hit the back of the net in the process.

Although I do rate Lambert I believe we should focus our attention elsewhere for the time being, last year we were strongly linked with Norwich striker Grant Holt. Like Lambert, Holt had a great first season and plays in a similar role to Rickie but struggled last season failing to make any sort of impact for the Canaries.

It’s cynical to suggest that Lambert will share the same fate as Holt but you can’t rule anything out.

To add to this, Lambert isn’t a player surplus to requirements at St Marys’; so I would be very surprised to see him go. I wouldn’t be devastated to hear that this is just speculation rather than concrete interest.

Also, would Lambert be willing to play back-up for Carroll?

I’ve said it so many times…..we have around 6 million left to spend, were going to get a two-bit young right sided attacker, who,no doubt, has “great potential”,and a mediocre midfielder on loan,I hate to be negative, but with £70 million debt around out neck,we will struggle to move forward, our aim should be to stay in the premiership and remove that poxy Icelandic debt, and when we do that, hopefully before the big move,we can invest in players and compete with the top 8,and maybe, beyond,so lets be realistic and stop dreaming,(for now)!!!

I reckon WH should go for everything it can. After all if we aim for mediocrity that’s the maximum we will achieve. At least if we go for excellence we might achieve prett darn good.

Your mugs! West ham are growing and will continue to do so. We don’t need lambert, n you know David that west ham will be mid table while Southampton are fighting relegation. N as for mentioning our transfer policy , we try to buy English, our chairmen are English, our manager is English! Your manager can’t even speak English, teams like yours are a joke and the main reason English football is lagging.
