The great Scott Parker debate

|

Scott ParkerSo during David Sullivan’s Q and A on Twitter he revealed that the club would be interested in buying Scott Parker back; if there was money left over after the club’s relentless pursuit for a striker came to a successful conclusion.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Now firstly I want to state I am not one these fans that forever bangs on about ‘loyalty’ as I realise football is a job to footballers, most of us in our lives would change jobs for better prospects or more money, so I understand why footballers do the same. So when Scott joined Spurs two years ago yes it hurt, but I could understand it. Why would he want to play in the Championship when he could stay in the Premier League and in London by signing for Spurs? The perceived notion of ‘loyalty’ doesn’t come into it. The only loyal ones in football are us the fans, even players such as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs who are one club men…would they have stayed at Man United their entire careers if they were a mid-table club? No.

So back to Parker do we need him? I don’t think so; we have an abundance of talent in those central midfield areas: Jack Collison, Mohamed Diame, Mark Noble and Alou Diarra all battling for those holding midfield positions, do we honestly need a 32 year old past his prime Parker to freshen things up? Wouldn’t it be a better idea to give Diarra or Collison; two men who barely featured for West Ham last season a chance instead?

Parker was truly magnificent for us during his four years at the club, 3 Hammer of the year awards, inspirational performances and memorable wonder-goals; we really did get his peak years but at 32 he simply isn’t the all action colossus he once was…he’s more of a steady eddy these days and that is simply not what we need if we want to continue to move forward on the pitch.

Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details

I fear if we brought Parker back not only would that mean in all probability Diarra and Collison would grow fed up and want to leave; and what we’d be left with is a Scott Parker that we no longer recognised, but a pale imitation, a really poor sequel which simply couldn’t live up to the original.

Parker is in our past, we need to look to the future.

Biggest load of rubbish I’ve read in ages. Scott Parker is the ultimate professional and it’s not like his fitness levels have dropped, and the same can easily be said about his technical ability. He’d improve the squad with ease. He’s still a class act. Only last year he was starting 11 for England at the Euros so how after 1 year he’s suddenly not good enough for West Ham is just bollocks. Any West Ham fan with a brain would have him back and it’d be a coup to do so. No debate necessary.

The only piece of rubbish here is your post. He has no technical ability. One of the most overrated mifielders ive seen.

      • Spence55 says:

Spot on Dan. Very limited in terms of overall contribution and IF West Ham are to move up a notch, we need better all-round players. Running round like a headless chicken and playing 5 yard square balls aint what we need !!!

  • Andrew says:

I agree with James, Parker is still an excellent player and could add a lot.

Parker, Diame, Diarra would be amazing in the middle.

Would have him back in an instance.

  • Geoff says:

If he still has the goods why is he leaving Spuds?

    • blimey says:

Because ABV is building his squad and moving on Uncle ‘Arry’s boys…

      Bring him back!!!

  • Stu says:

Im a Spurs fan and think Parker has something to offer but not what you need if you want to be seen to be improving the team and building for the future. He is a good player but injuries have taken their toll and he is not the player he was when you had him, when was the last time you saw him score? I’m struggling to remember, he spends most of his time doing pirouettes 20 yards in front of the back four. He would be a good addition experience wise for Wigan / Hull / Palace etc etc but not what you want if your trying to show ambition. No offence meant to him, he did a good job for us and I like him but age and injuries have inevitably taken their toll.

    • Spence55 says:

On the money Stu. The days (hopefully) of West Ham, looking backwards are gone !

  • Paul says:

Scott has been blinding for Spurs up until last year when he’s legs started to go and the games started to pass him by a little. West ham should be more ambitious and less sentimental, think Parker would be well placed at a newly promoted team who need hes experience and not he’s quality. Loved having him at spurs though, 100 per center every time

  • Johnsey says:

Yet another case of a player going to Spurs and their career going backwards.

Parker was a superb player for us, as was Paul Allen but they both went to Spurs and that was pretty much the end.

Can anyone remember any player that has come through the Spurs youth system since Ledley King? Do they not have scouts?

  • Kwame says:

Paul and Stu thanks for your input, couldn’t have said it any better myself. If we want to move forward brining Parker back shouldn’t be an option.

  • Kwame says:

James I will not bother to read your comments as I can see by the first line you’re not interested in having a debate; its only YOUR opinion that matters, honestly you should be on the coaching staff with your ‘knowledge’ of the game.

  • The Cat says:

I hope that the mention of Scott Parker’s name being linked with us is all smoke and no fire. Parker was a great player and performer with us whilst he was here, soured many feel with how his time came to its end, but we moved on and having him back with the club would be a negative for so many reasons.
    1. Parker leaving West Ham had a positive benefit in allowing Noble to improve & develop as a player. In an attacking sense it was to West Hams advantage. This still remains the case and more so now with the emergence of Morrison & Lletget and Diame or Diarra.
Would I rather Parker than any of those mentioned?……….NO!
    2. When Parker first arrived at West Ham, he came with a reputation of being an injury prone player, which he proved correct by his absence through injury for the better part of that season. After that initial spell he then went on to be Mr consistent & constant. However since his move to spurs and a couple more years down the line, he is now (naturally) taking longer to recover from injuries, tied to the wages he likely to expect, this deal should be a non starter to even the most enthusiastic.

Thanks but no thanks, I’ll keep the memories thank you very much!

  • mike says:

Parker only looked good in our side because the rest of the team at the the time where CRAP!!!!!!!!

  • ed says:

FORGET HIM !!! HE JOINED THE FILTHY JEWS WHEN HE COULD HAVE JOINED ANY PREMIERSHIP CLUB !!! LET HIM ROT ON THE BENCH AT THE LANE !!! ALL HE DOES IS MAKE A FEW TACKLES, AND LOVES RUNNING IN CIRCLES WITH THE BALL IN FRONT OF THE BACK FOUR. HIS PASSING IS SHOCKING ASWEL. ONE OF THE MOST OVERATED PLAYERS IN THE WORLD. I DONT WANT HIM AND I DONT THINK WE NEED HIM. WOULD MUCH PREFER DIARRA DIAME AND NOLAN IN THE MIDDLE !! SCOTT CAN DO ONE IF YOU ASK ME

  • Bryan says:

NO we do not need him as he is to injury prone plus he to old.We are supposed to be building a team prior to our taking over the OS another load of BS from the 2 dwarfs that run our club.Notice to all footballers 31 years and over if you want a job please apply to west ham united.
