Former West Ham striker

West Ham haven’t had their fair share of prolific strikers during the Premier League, the Hammers haven’t had a Alan Shearer or Thierry Henry but this doesn’t mean we haven’t had a few striking heroes. Here are my top five Hammers strikers of the Premier League era.

Obviously there are many Hammers out there, however, being 16, this is my opinion, with players of the recent times.

5- Jermiane Defoe : JUDAS!!! However, in all fairness the now Tottenham Hotspur forward is a very, very good striker. Power! Pace! Composed! Although we hate Defoe with passion, I feel that he is an absolutely magnificent striker and possess a lot of the aspects needed for a decent striker. I enjoy seeing his name in the England line-up and let’s be fair, nobody can call Defoe a bad striker.

4- Marlon Harewood : Big! Bulky! Pacey! Harewood was literally a tank! Best known for his goal against Middlesbrough in the semi final!! His career has somewhat fallen from there however, and now he just seems to have faded. Harewood has got to be remembered as one of our great PL strikers.

3- Dean Ashton : That over head kick against Manchester United has got to be on of the most imprinted goals on my brain! WOW!! Its unfortunate that West Ham never really replaced Ashton when he retired through injury, but imagine what could have been had he still been playing. Ashton is firmly remembered as one of my favourite West Ham strikers. I wish he was still a Hammer to this day and always wonder what might have been!

2- Paolo Di Canio: What can’t you say about Paolo Di Canio? He has got to be one of the greatest people to have graced Upton Park. Skillful, temperamental and a pure agent of hilarity! In my opinion, Balotelli is just the new Di Canio! I love Di Canio for all the good reasons, and its comical to watch his YouTube videos! Hopefully one day Paolo will return to Upton Park as a manager, but for now, he needs experience but Di Canio and his legend should, and will not ever be forgotten.

Carlos Tevez : number 1 West Ham striker in my opinion. This man saved us from relegation, and he knows we put him on the market. I would love to see this man back at West Ham before his career ends, simply because I love him, you love him, we love him.

Tevez will go down in history for what he did for our club! And this man that was once my computer screensaver is still, without a doubt, a Hammer at heart! It makes me so proud when he doesn’t celebrate against us! It makes me proud when we clap his goals.

  • Tony Cotteeee! says:

Tevez did not save us from relegation. He contributed to it but ultimately it was a team effort. Tevez only scored PL 7 goals in a season for us then forced his move to Man U!

Has to be PDC for me every time.

Just like to add, I wouldn’t add Raduciou to the above as he scored a couple of decent goals in his short spell with us but how could I forget Boogers and Chamakh!??

  • Hammerco says:

“Harewood has got to be remembered as one of our great PL strikers”
I’m not sure if this is a joke or one of the most over confident statements ever made. I’d feel bad putting him in my list of top 10 west ham players called Marlon Harewood. The guy was OK until he had to think, then he’d fall over his own feet or do something equally stupid. Hartson should be in there, Kanoute and Wanchope miles above Harewood, as is any other striker to have played for us. It suggests you’ve haven’t been following West Ham throughout the premier league era, so maybe rename the article to “Best West Ham strikers I’ve seen” which is probably what you meant in the first place.

  • Danny says:

Hartson over harewood and tevez wouldn’t make my top 5 because if the amount if time he was at us, kids 16 tho so let’s give him a break

  • gazza says:

    Foe me;
    1 John Hartson
    2 Dean Ashton
    3 Paolo DiCanio
    4 Carlos Teves
    5 Craig Bellamy

  • Will says:

How is di canio not top of that list Zamora kanoute Hartson also

  • Ian says:

Ah I remember the early premier league years so bit more to lean on!
    5. Trevor Morley – his hardworking and modest goal return were vital in 93/94.
    4. Tony Cottee – came back scored goals then Harry fecked him off!
    3. Tevez – Yep he was awesome, just the carnage it all left bothers me!
    2. John Hartson – this man was unplayable for 18 months I loved watching him play! Then he got unfit and Harry did another deal rather than work with him on the training field, Hartston should have been with us for years.
    1. PDC – well it all been said before, class.

honourable mentions to Zamora! harewood, Carlton and Kitson who all had their moments!

With regards Bellamy and Ashton it is case of what if……..

  • Steve says:

    Bryan pop Robson

  • Deano says:

Pauli futre? Ha ha. Good I hope those sort of mistakes are behind us.

  • Johnsey says:

    Tony Cottee
    Frank McAvennie
    David Cross
    Paolo DiCanio
    Pop Robson

I can’t include Tevez, he only scored a half dozen goals and then couldn’t wait to get out.
