A welcome return for a former West Ham hero?

Scott ParkerOn Jack Sullivan’s Twitter on Sunday at 4pm, David Sullivan took questions in a live question and answer session. When asked by one fan whether there was any chance of a return of Scott Parker on loan, David replied “we have to focus wages on strikers due to wage cap but would love Scott back if there was room”.

After his reception from the fans when he returned to Upton Park with Tottenham for the first time, you would certainly wonder how many fans would welcome him back and also after publically speaking of how upset he was with the reception, how likely it is that he would want to come back?

I have to first say how much of a disservice it was to Scotty when he was booed throughout the entire game. Some fans seem to think that just because he moved on to a bigger club that what he did for our club in almost single-handedly keeping us up in the 2009/2010 season, which concluded with his second and consecutive Hammer of the Year award. In 2010/2011 season Parker again was consistently impeccable under arguably the worst manager in West Ham’s history, Avram Grant. Scotty P even took the half time team talk when we were 3-0 down against West Brom in which the second half saw a 3-3 comeback. In that season we were relegated but Parker still managed to make the PFA Player of the Year 6 man shortlist and also win the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. He also won the Hammer of the Year for the third time in a row which had not been done since Trevor Brooking first did it between the years 1976 and 1979.

Scotty had broken back into the England team during his time at West Ham and he was having the best period of his career to date. If he wanted any chance of making the England team he would have to be playing Premier League football. It was also said that his Dad was a Spurs fan and it was his lifelong dream to see Scott playing for his team.

The minority of West Ham fans seemed to be able to forget all that as he returned with Tottenham.

Having said all that, Scott has now not been regularly starting and is now 32, so with our strong centre midfielders, would he be able to run the team which is in a much stronger position since the last time he was here? I think Parker would be a good addition to the squad still but there are certainly positions in the team which need strengthening before the centre of midfield.

I personally would welcome Scott back as would most, but I don’t think West Ham should go out of their way to make it happen and it should be ranked low in terms of transfer importance.

I just don’t think he will add anything to the team, Noble, Diame, Diarra, Nolan, Morrison, Collison, Cole all vying for midfield spots, he has slowed down and is injury prone, a shame but not for me

west ham should get remy & varela and get rid of maiga & vaz te

  • Pete says:

did well for us – but that was yesterday, we need more up top first.

  • Steve says:

No no no no no – we’ve moved on and have some quality midfielders? Why go back?

  • Graham says:

Conveniently forgot his last few Shambolic performances. We’ve moved on. He’s yesterday’s hero. We have more than enough better midfield cover. Besides he’s a yid now and always will be. I don’t even eat in McD’s anymore…..lol

Agree with most, that Parker would be a backwards step & as an old flame, should NEVER be rekindled.

I personally think we saw the best of him, but we now have better, fitter, stronger and younger at our disposal and its one of our stronger areas in the squad. I’m guessing the comment regarding Parker’s possible “emotional” return was meant to be kind, but the way he left us in a protracted stroppy way to the SPUDS of all places, means there is no way back for me. Like Carrick and Defoe…..History!

    Poor mans mark noble

Agree don’t need Scott now. We have moved on. We need creative goal scoring midfielders if we cannotvgetva forward. What’s all this about Remy? Isn’t he heading for wormwood scrubs !!

  • brooking says:

I would put the money into other areas as its clear we are lacking finesse going forward I woulf look to loan taarabt or moses and sign vydra as although unproven in the prem he would feed off carroll nicely

  • brooking says:

Parker I loved and would forget about him leaving us because its part of the game, all that matters is what is best fir west ham however it depends upon whether we have the funds as he might also come with high wages

  • Ausie John says:

To Steve , when we picked up Joe Cole , did we move on prior to picking him up , l say go for it lets get Scott Parker

  • Westhamwag says:

Can never forget the way his celebrated with AVB when Bale put that goal in – was grinning from cheek to cheek that’s how bothered he was about being booed!

  • Phil the iron says:

Got to say not really bothered either way about Parker. He was a great player for us and played out of his skin, the best football of his career! He was even capped! But when he left that was it! I blame grant if I’m honest as if we hadn’t had such a terrible season and bing relegated then I doubt if he would have left! I’m only interested in West Ham and once you are gone your gone! End off! Would I have him back? Not sure, on the one hand Joe has come back and he is West Ham! But Parker has had injuries and you can’t keep putting your body on the line time after time without paying a price? It would appear that that price has been exacted during his time with spuds. Also we are now strong in midfield both in numbers and in quality, so not sure what he could offer that we don’t already have! And it wouldn’t be right just to get him back out of sentiment!

  • shaz says:

We already have enough players for his position so would be a total waste of funds – we need right winger n striker – besides if he was still worth having spurs would keep him so i say thanks but no thanks

  • Fred says:

We don’t need Parker back! We have a strong midfield as it is, but I would much rather focus on bringing the youth players through over someone of Scott’s age
