A Season Ticket Renewal Ploy From West Ham?

Alvaro NegredoIn the last week, West Ham United have been reported by numerous sources to have had a £14.5 million bid rejected for Sevilla striker Álvaro Negredo.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

Although it remains to be seen if this bid was in fact made last January or this summer the striker is in the form of his life having bagged four goals on the last day of the La Liga season.

Whenever the bid was made it still shows a real signal of intent from the board, and shows the direction the club are trying to go. If it was made this summer that would be potentially an outlay of 30 million on two strikers, Andy Carroll and Negredo.  It’s refreshing to see moves for big name players rather than the past moves for Mido and Big Benni McCarthy

As with football it leaves fans very suspicious, with many fans saying this move is only to help boost season ticket sales, and it makes you remember some of the ludicrous rumours in the past around this time, the likes of Beckham and Neymar spring to mind.

But for a change I think I believe in this kind of move could happen, the owners recognise the importance to bring in some quality players and strikers in particular, with just Modibo Maiga on the books at the moment. The club recognise its better to have quality than quantity, we saw in January with signings of Chamakh and Paulista who made two appearances between them. I think the board have realised that wages need to be spent on players that can actually make a difference so a move for Negredo could be plausible.

The move for the Sevilla man is a move in the right direction for the club, even if I can’t see the move for him coming off it shows we are looking at quality players for a change. I just can’t see us buying both Carroll and Negredo especially with the money being touted around. There’s no doubting that if by some miracle we bought both that we would have a very strong strike force.

I do though think it was a stab in the dark from the owners, the Spaniard had already came out saying West Ham “are too small for him” and he later stated that he would only leave for a club in the Champions League. So if you look it like that you could argue it is a renewal time transfer bid.

In DG and DS we trust I am convinced that this summer they will get it bang on. Last year they produced a team packed with Premier League experience and it paid off with the club never really in any relegation danger. I think they realise that this season they will have to take the odd risk to continue this clubs rise before our big move in 2016.

Negredo and Carroll bids are a start in our rise as a club, I suspect Carroll will sign and I think we need at least another two strikers on top of him, It is time for Big Sam to uncover a gem for us, and I believe he will, as he said, if he can attract Jay Jay Okocha to Bolton, who know who he could attract to our historic club. (No offence Bolton).

In other news, the club have confirmed the signing of Real Betis stopper Adrian on a free, the Spaniard will join on the 1st of July on a three year deal and will provide back up to Jussi. The club also announced that youngster Dylan Tombides put pen to paper on a new deal. The Australian, who has been battling with testicular cancer, will hope he will have the chance to show what he is all about.

Good luck to them both, and let see how silly season unfolds, this, as always, is a massive summer for this club.

Carroll and Negredo aren’t worth thirty mil IMO, waste of money.

you are spot on…. if we’re gonna spend that much, why not buy Tevez and Rhodes

      • Delboy says:

Sorry appy ammer but they are not tall enough for Sam, its height not quality that counts.

The rumour became “news” after June 1st…. that’s when all real WHU supporters would have renewed anyhow… so not a ploy… the part time fans come to the kids for a quid games.. not apply for a season ticket based on newspaper stories… Rubbish Post..

Delboy is right…. cos Joe Cole and Matt Jarvis are massive eh? He will have a big target man.. Nolan is not tall… Noble is not tall… Vaz Te is not tall.. it’s a myth… come and watch the games and you will see… good football.. played predominantly on the floor… Collins will play a long ball as will the keeper… but that is about it..

I Know it’s a myth. But the facts show he Allardyce likes to play 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 with a target man in the middle ( usually tall) I.e Carroll to flick it on or hold it up until the wingers join the attack. And you could still renew on the 1st and the rumours of a bid came long before it was rumoured after the Jan window that we would make a move in the summer. Oh and by the way I renewed on the 27th of may. So I am a real fan in your eyes. This is a potential ploy to bring in new fans.

Glad to hear it David… glad to hear it..

You saw the games this season then.. my only real disappointment was Vs Wigan… Stoke stifled the game for 80 mins and Sunderland… we really needed a prolific striker in those games..

Yep… we punt it long from Collins and Jussi… but I’m certain you would agree that we played some blinding stuff on the floor? We saw some outstanding goals from Maiga, Diame, Carroll and Nolan… even O’Neil!

My continued annoyance is the BFS haters… and cynical WHU fans.. who snipe at what they feel are negatives… many of which don’t attend games.. and by default (IMHO) lose the right to comment.. you can’t judge a game by the 2 minutes we get on MOTD..

I doubt they need new fans… we have no where to put them… most games are sold out and they released 2000 extra season tickets before the Wembley Play Off Final.. to guarantee a seat.. so if the numbers are to be believed.. we have more season tickets than ever before.. with the ground in the current format.

I was as underwhelmed as everyone else with Gold and Sullivan when they arrived… appointments like GRANT… Christ… I wondered what they were thinking… but… they have come good and I respect what they are doing for the club…

Rubbish post… stop talking us down and stirring a pot… concentrate on what we now have.. what we have achieved in 2 seasons and where we will go next..

PS: I only renewed on 29th May… (based on my own theory)..I defer to your greater patronage…
