West Ham’s Dilemma: Cole or Chamakh?

SportSunday’s trip to Anfield will see us try to over-turn a truly pathetic run of results that stretch back to the sixties. Not since the decade that Neil Armstrong first walked upon virgin moon dirt have West Ham come away with 3 points from the home of the Scousers.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

With Andy Carroll ineligible against his parent club just who should step into his rather sizeable boots? Carlton Cole or Marouane Chamakh? In my opinion it should be the latter.

We already know what Coley is all about; he’s been part of the furniture for years, however since Chamakh arrived in January his opportunities have been rather limited, with only three appearances to his name thus far.

It’s virtually impossible not to start Carroll; you cannot pay a man 80k a week to sit on the bench; unless Sheikh Mansour’s oil or Roman’s rouble’s are bank rolling your club. So with Carroll unavailable surely this weekend is the chance to give Chamakh a spin.

Next season West Ham are going to have to undergo major surgery up front; as Carlton Cole is out of contract, as it stands Carroll will return to Liverpool, Wellington Paulista certainly won’t get a deal seeing as there’s only a handful of games left with which to make an impression and surely Modibo Maiga’s days are numbered. Leaving our options up top thread bare; we may as well take a look at Chamakh whilst he’s on our books and you never know a few goals between now and the season’s end could well give Sam some food for thought, as he seeks to patch up our forward line this summer.

History tells us we’re probably going to lose on Sunday; we may as well try something a bit different in an attempt to prevent the inevitable.

I’d play Carlton just to see him destroy skrtel like he did a couple of years ago :p

  • Jeff says:

Chamakh, he deserves a chance. Also, what and who is this wellignton Paulista? All I read is that he bangs in goals for the development squad but is never chosen as a sub in the main team. Surely he cannot be as bad as Mido all those years ago who started games?

    How bout Cole AND Chamakh!!!!!

    • andy brown says:

442 yeah right allardyce moans on constantly about our lack of goals this season but will only play 1 up top surely now we are pretty much safe it would be a good time to blood paulista an unknown quantity and he does move round in the box unlike the wonky donky

    Cole or Chamakh?

    It’s EASY, Cole everytime!

No disrespect to Chamakh, but if he was to have been ahead of Cole, he would have to have done better than he has up until now and shown himself to be a threat. Sadly he hasn’t done that and I don’t think he will now either before his short term loan is over.

Cole on the other hand ALWAYS turns up when he has something to prove and is the ideal striker to hold up play and take the pressure off of us and he and the rest of the team are familiar with each other. In football familiarity with your team mates counts for everything!
    Cole all day long!

give chamakh a chance! no way we will play with 2 st up front. and playing (again) o`brian left back is like playing fron the start in 10. hope to get a draw. i can`t see us winning this one…

How about we play magia ? Aside from carroll he is our top scoring striker and not played anywhere near as many games ! It appears sam does not like him and therefore not willing to even consider playing him ! Ps. Don’t get me wong i think sam is the man to lead us forward

  • Jamie says:

I agree, Maiga would be good to start, considering that he has got 4 goals for us this season and has never started a premier league game!!! We payed something like 4.8 million and he hasn’t started a pl game, why???

    • andy brown says:

coz predictable fat sam just has to play 1 up front and then wonder why we dont score enough as you say mate why buy a striker and not play him why not play maiga paulista and cole that would shock liverpool and make them reshuffle their plans and it would stop their fullbacks ie glen johnson who always scores against us getting forward

    • bob says:

The reason sam don’t like him ,is because he played in African nations when promised he wouldn’t ,when we signed him. Cole should start . He done well against them earlier in the season chamkh is just not good enough . Sorry !

  • Stu says:

Maiga has been shocking, holds the ball far too much, too weak on the ball, awful work rate and never gets back to help out.

    • Bradley Jennings says:

Hes only ever been given 20 mins a game! How can you get all that from cameo roles? 4 goals in no league starts tells me he deserves a shot.

Only 2 points for a win in the 60s. So West Ham have never taken 3 from Anfield

  • John says:

Personally I think there are only two options. we play no striker, and leave the rest of the team to score the goals…. which they have been all season, including the defence or we play Pallister. Sounds like it is the perfect opportunity to let him show what he is worth. If we are going to lose, then utilize him to see what he can do under such immense pressure. I think personally he will surprise!!. Or maybe they don’t want to play him incase he scores goals and leaves for another club. Maybe they aim toi keep him for next season.
