Time For West Ham To Plan Ahead?

|

Diame ArmySaturday was a tremendous day for Sam Allardyce’s West Ham side, taking the club to eleventh in the Premier Leagye table and capping off a superb last 8 days, given the award of the Olympic Stadium.

The result left the club in a strange conundrum. There is never a safe time to make assumptions; nevertheless, it is a fairly safe bet that West Ham United will be in the Premier League next year. So when is the time to plan ahead? In my opinion now is the time and my three suggestions need to be implemented as soon as possible to assure that the Hammers can have an effective challenge of consolidating Premier League football for the years that approach the move to Stratford.

My first suggestion is to give Sam Allardyce a new contract. Undoubtedly, he will have his critics, complaints about the style of play and the negativity that comes with a one-man attack. Having said that, I am a big fan of Allardyce’s, and the 3 points picked up over West Brom confirm this. There is one fact that surrounds Sam, which is that he has never had a side relegated. For the entirety of Allardyce’s reign at West Ham he has had the usual hum-drum of negative press that is concocted around him, but he has stayed true to his professional attributes and proven his managerial qualities. When he became the manager of West Ham United, he divided opinion, as fans were unsure of what to expect of him, culminating in many fans and critics holding a belief that West Ham United should storm the league and be promoted by mid-march. This didn’t quite happen in the way that many hammers expected, but he showed his talents of delivering on promises and the club went on one of the best runs of form to win the Play-Off final over Blackpool.

Having said this, his hard work would have been destroyed if the return to the Premier League ended in relegation. As I stated earlier, it’s not safe to make assumptions, but the assumption that he has fulfilled on this aim is a fairly safe one. Sam must receive a new contract from the club, he keeps teams up, he pushes teams forward and with the move on the horizon, it is vitally important that we go to Stratford in the best form, stance and squad possible. I firmly believe that Sam is the man to do that, as he has the qualities to solidify our position in the top English league. Sam needs a new contract that would at least take him into the planned season to move to Stratford, he, quite frankly, deserves nothing less.

The next plan that West Ham United has to fulfill is to give Mohamed Diame a new contract that ties him down to the club for years to come. Having joined West Ham United in the summer of 2012 on a free from Wigan Athletic, his contract lasted 3 years. Although we were all horrified to learn that he could leave for a basement price in January if he saw fit to leave. We need to give Mo the contract he deserves, as he has been an integral part of this side as any other player.

With us planning ahead for the Olympic Stadium, we need to make sure that there is change in the transfer policies of the club. It is the time for the club to stand strong, and make sure that we holding on to the best young talent and also, keeping the best squad players we have, which nicely moves me on to the next plan.

The club, must, sure up the attacking line that we currently have, and this means that we sign Andy Carroll from Liverpool in the summer. The biggest question about this plan will be down to Andy himself, and where he wishes to play his football next season. I thoroughly hope that we can convince him to stay with us, and once again, our win over West Bromwich Albion showed this. Sometimes, players with big reputations have to be defended off the pitch, but Andy let his feet do the talking last Saturday, and his head for that matter. A glorious brace from the giant English centre forward only added to his great form that he has been having recently.

Alan Shearer said on his red sofa at about 11:30 on Saturday evening that the ‘mean’, ‘nasty’ Andy was back. He was speaking in reference to the nature of his performance, that it was mesmerizing the way he bullied the normally reliable centre back pairing of Olson and McCauley. Andy played almost as a throwback to the great English centre forwards of the past, shades of Nat Lofthouse or even Shearer himself, where they perfectly headed the ball past a flailing goalkeeper. Though his second goal showed his quality to judge a travelling ball and expertly finish. Carroll needs to be bought by the club, or we could just regret it for some years to come.

The plans need to be seen through, otherwise the club could have been taking one giant step forward this season, and two steps back next season.

We have got to sign him, we have not seen the best of Jarvis yet, and if we get a new winger on the right Carrol would not be short of 20 goals a season.
