Striker Leaves West Ham

|

Frederic PiquionneIt’s finally been confirmed, after a season and a half of waiting, West Ham have finally managed to shift a bit of dead wood. Mr Frederic Piquionne has left Upton Park, or should we say Rush Green the home ground of our development squad and moved across ‘the pond’ to MLS side Portland Timbers.

Accompanied with more than six thousand other West Ham fans moaning at being one down to the team then second bottom, the groans and disbelief became even louder when Sam Allardyce thought to himself, ‘I know who to bring on. Freddie.’

Luckily for Sam, his decision turned out to be the right one as Piquionne scored the winner. It came 15 minutes from time as Piquionne managed to fall on top of the ball, rolling it in the back of the net with his chest.

Signing for £1million from Portsmouth, Piquionne managed to score 11 goals for the Irons in 40 games from league and cup competitions. Not so bad if you think of it. But in fact that’s what Piquionne was, a bad player.

When off the ball, there would be no chasing back but just a lonely man standing still waiting for the ball to reach him. Then you have the stupid incident where he is sent off at home against his old side Portsmouth, for slapping defender Greg Halford in the face.

Having been told by Big Sam that he wouldn’t be in his plans any more, in theory you’d have two options right? Try and prove the manager wrong and fight for your place in the squad this season. As the last time we were in the Premier League he scored six times, the one most notable in the 1-0 win at home to Tottenham, and for a club who hasn’t had an out and out goal scorer for years, six goals along with other players contributing would just about be accepted.

Or, he could take the news badly, not bother and just collect his pay cheque after every month. The latter was his choice.

He was then put into the development squad and was rumoured to have fallen out with Coach Nick Haycock several times and only played three times with no goals. I was at a Pre-season friendly against my local side Dartford where the development side came to town and although we lost 3-0 to a decent Blue Square Premiership outfit, every player played well apart from Piquionne.  The lack of effort made us look like a team with 10 men, his tantrums when team mates made him run for a pass or the fresh face where there was no drop of sweat, I was embarrassed to have him wear a West Ham shirt, even if it was a friendly.

As the French man finally moves on to better things (for us), we can say thanks for the three points against Tottenham, thanks for the comedy goal and three points away at Coventry, but finally Mr Piquionne, good riddance.

Poor attitude, poor work ethic and poor supporters for having to put up with him !

Got a lot of bad press for no reason imo. Not his fault Big Sam told him to F off. I am not surprised he couldn’t be bothered. If you are told you are not in Big Sam’s plans, that is kind of it. Even if you are supposedly in his plans it is hard enough to catch his eye, just ask Jack Collison.

When he joined I thought he would deliver. Put him in a team which creates and he will flourish. OOPS! Just a lazy b##%#*#d
