Potential Striking Targets For West Ham

|

Ricardo Vaz TeThere has been a lot of talk recently of who West Ham United should be signing in the summer transfer window, with our main striker Andy Carroll’s loan deal ending. There have been many names thrown around such as Wilfried Bony and Rickie Lambert, who is unlikely to join us after signing a two year deal with Southampton, and so with all this going on and our chairmen saying that we could be making our “biggest signing ever” I thought that I would bring up some of the strikers who I think would be a good signing for the Hammers.

Not every player that we sign will be a massive signing and so I am going to start off my list with players that we would be able to get on the cheap.

The first player is Franco Di Santo, he wouldn’t be the most exciting signing I must admit, however his contract with Wigan Athletic ends at the end of the season and for a free transfer he would be a brilliant signing. In 85 Wigan starts he has scored 13 goals and in 28 games this season has scored 5, however small his goal tally is, he always performs at the business end of the season and could possibly help to add a bit more flair to the team, possibly coming off of the bench.

The other player who could possibly be signed on the cheap may depend on whether Queens Park Rangers get relegated, it is Bobby Zamora. Now people may think I’m living in the past with this one, but I think the man who scored the Play Off winning goal against Preston North End in 2005 is a player who has been plagued by injuries, however he has put in some very good performances for QPR and in my opinion could do well for us. Especially if Sam Allardyce is going to stay in his job, Zamora could be the perfect player for his boyhood club as he would be able to hold up the ball, bring others into play and can chip in with a goal himself, so if we could get him fairly cheaply I definitely think that we should do it.

Now to the exciting ones, it is said that we could see one of our biggest ever signings and so I’m going to be looking at some big name strikers who could possibly be leading our line by the start of next season.

I think that as he is a man who has been talked about so much recently Wilfried Bony has to be mentioned; and the first thing to mention is his great goal tally this year, so far this season he has scored 26 goals in 24 games for Vitesse in the Eredevisie and despite it not being the biggest league a big man (he is 6 foot) who can play well and score goals may be exactly what West Ham need and he could possibly be a brilliant signing for us, however it is thought that his favoured destination is Italy, but if West Ham can bring him to England for a price that isn’t too high then it would be brilliant for us in my opinion.

This is probably a long shot, but there is another signing that could possibly be made if relegation is brought to the player’s team, and it is Christian Benteke, who, after taking the Premier League by storm will not want to drop down to the Championship and there could be a chance that we could try to capitalise on the situation, even though there will probably be a lot of other Premier League teams doing the same thing. For his first season 13 goals in 27 starts is a brilliant goal tally in my opinion and if we could get him to West Ham he would be a great acquisition, however I do admit that it may be an unlikely one.

The last player, is a man who I would try to get on loan, I would try to get Romelu Lukaku. Since his loan move from Chelsea to West Bromwich Albion he has been almost unstoppable and has scored 13 goals in 27 games and being a man who can run at the defence and bring other players into play he would be a great signing for West Ham. However it would be hard to persuade him to come and if we were to have another season with our main striker being a loanee then it may have a bad effect on the future team and we may want to get somebody in permanently.

So that is my list of 5 strikers he would could possibly bring in, I have tried not to be too unrealistic and avoided trying to say to get people like David Villa while trying to also aim high with the last three. The forward position has been under scrutiny this season so I would love to hear what you think of the players that I suggested and who you would like to see come in, who could improve the attack.

    Good shouts.

I expect Sam to still be the manager next year and Lukaku and Benteke would both fit well in or current system. Lukaku is likely to go back to Chelski though so lets hope Villa get relegated! Bony sounds interesting but I do worry that we’ll spend a load of cash on a guy that has not yet proved himself in the top leagues. I think Bobby Z has had too many injuries to be considered and wuold be an expensive bench warmer. No doubt he can do a job though, in hindesight with Ashtons injury, we should have never sold him in the 1st place

I still think we should get Carroll and maybe bony as well and play both together

  • No disrespect but strikers such as Zamora, Di Santo are players we need to moving away from. We need goalscorers and neither of them are naturals. Bony would be an exceptional signing and a step in the right direction, but we shall see in time if it happens.

Zamora and Di Santo are worse than our current crop of strikers. Lukaku won’t be going anywhere. Chelsea will use him next season. Bony would be a great signing but I am starting to think it is all a bit of a PR stunt from Sullivan. Benteke would be good to but not sure if we will get him.
The sad thing is we haven’t given any of our strikers a chance yet we are all calling for new ones. If we change the system, goals come. No matter how many strikers Big Sam aimlessly brings in they won’t score in the system we are playing at the moment.

Zamora is no where near the level we need, he isnt in any shape or form a goalscorer, something we are seriously lacking. Benteke will be off somewhere a bit better than us as he’s impressed and some clubs will be prepared to pay a fee we probably wont.

Bony and Carroll but we should get a winger with higher crosses to get on carrols head

We should get Lionel messi if we could or we can afford Carroll,Bony,Tello, pato maybe

I think that we need to get Carroll because of the huge amount that he does for the team. Benteke will be off to a bigger team and Lukaku will be playing for Chelsea. I think we need to switch up the formation a bit for next season. Diamé has been rumoured with a move away for ages and I think we should capitalise on that and get 8 or 9 million for him. I think we should then sign a decent right winger, a left back and a smaller, faster striker to pounce on Carroll’s knockdowns, because at this moment in time we just haven’t got anyone that regularly gets on the end of them and scores from them. Possible winger may be Nathan Redmond for Birmingham. Because of their financial state we may be able to get him for little over 5 million. We should then either get an experienced left back or promote Dan Potts to the first team, considering the superb performance he put in against Man Utd in the cup and the potential he has
