West Ham’s Transfer Window Was A Success

|

Joey Cole 2It seems to me when it comes to transfer deadline day that unless you’ve succumbed to doing business at the last minute that you’ve somehow had an unproductive window.  I’m amazed that there are some out there who don’t think West Ham did some good business this month just because we didn’t sign anyone on the 31st of Jan.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

January saw the return of Joey Cole; the creative spark oft lacked during the first half of the season, January also saw us address our goal scoring issues with the loan signing of Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh as well Wellington Paulista brought to the club; now of course it’s too early to judge whether or not they will provide the solutions needed for our poor form in front of goal; but at least the club were proactive in getting thcem in relatively early in the window. And our final piece of business saw us finally get up to the bare minimum of Centre back’s needed for a Premier League season with the signing of Emanuel Pogatetz.

The squad was undeniably strengthened last month and somehow, someway despite a tempest of speculation and admiring glances from across the capital our best player Mohamed Diame is still at the club. No doubt the circus surrounding Momo’s future has merely gone into hibernation until the summer, but for our all important first season back he’s still one of ours.

It would’ve been nice if we could’ve brought in a Left back and a ‘keeper as they’re problem positions for us but whilst they’re positions which cause concern are we really going to get sucked into a relegation battle because our ‘keeper is a bit too old? Or because we lack a top class left back?

This January has been a decent one for us, now what’s needed is a decent second half to the season to keep us away from the rat race at the wrong end.

Good article mate. We made some solid signings and kept hold of Momo Diame so I am fairly happy

Coley was indeed a good signing but what makes you think we have solved our goal scoring issue with someone who couldn’t hit a barn door at Arsenal and someone Allardyce will not play because he is a DS recruit from Brasil. Jussi is becoming more prone to errors he wouldn’t have made a few years ago, so although we have made a few signings only one is quality and we haven’t addressed our LB problem and our GK is becoming more suspect. That all being said if we can get back the early season confidence we have enough to finish in the top 10.

Butland would have been a great keeper to sign for not a lot of money.
