My FIVE Favourite West Ham Moments

|

Soccer - npower Football League Championship - Play Off - Final - Blackpool v West Ham United - Wembley StadiumI thought I would share some of my Favourite Moments as a West Ham United Supporter. I have no doubt you will enjoy these, bringing back some great memories. There are some more obvious choices, and feel free to share them.

1. Goal – this is going to surprise a few, but my favourite ever goal that I have seen was a Stan Lazaridis strike, away at Newcastle Utd where he has struck the ball from about 35 yards out, across the keeper and into the top right corner. I can’t believe this goal hasn’t had more coverage! I think it was about 1997 and we won it 1-0.

2. Game – has to be the 5-4 win against Bradford City at home. The game was packed full of everything, we were losing, we were winning, we were losing again then we won. This was also the ill-fated debut of a young Stephen Bywater, who I don’t think ever recovered! We looked dead and buried at 4-2 sown, but we rallied and ending up winning th match. Brilliant. This brings me nicely onto my next moment.

3. Funniest moment – Di Canio had not got a decision all game in the Bradford match mentioned above, he even sat on the floor in the second half, sulking and asking Redknapp to take him off. Then he sprung up, and played a blinder, and when a penalty was awarded, him and Lampard starting fighting for the ball as they both wanted to take it. Di Canio of course won the argument, stepped up and slotted the ball in the net. Our Paolo was very temperamental.

4. Moment of Madness – goes to Di Canio yet again. Playing away at Everton, it was level, and the Everton keeper comes sliding out to try and clear the ball. He clearly does some damage to his knee, and stays down, grounded outside the penalty area. Trevor Sinclair has the ball on the right, crosses a beauty into the box and all Di Canio needs to do is put it in. No, he decides he wants to catch the ball as a sign of sportsmanship. Harry Redknapp said he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry! Stuart Pearce wanted to deck him!

5. Vaz Teeeeeeeeeeee – its the last 5 minutes of the recent Playoff Final at Wembley, against Blackpool. It was a tough match, closely fought by two good teams. It’s 1-1 and looking like extra time. The ball comes in, Carlton Cole falls over the ball, manages to force the keeper into a save, and the ball trickles out to Vaz Te who blasts it into the roof of the net. Let the celebrations commence, and a wild party at Wembley for one of the best moments of our recent history. So dramatic, and such and important goal – West Ham were back in the Premier League!

Sorry ! You must be very young supporter.
I hope so much you get to experience the very few and far between moments of supreme joy as I have had.
Every twenty year wait for that one day makes it all worth while.

My proudest moment has to be the 1990 semi final defeat to forest. At 4-0 down and all u could hear was the hammers fans.
