West Ham United are expecting to complete the transfer of Cruzeiro forward Wellington Paulista sometime this week.

Paulista, 28, underwent a medical at Holly house on Tuesday morning ahead of his six month loan move which he will aim to make permanent at the end of the season.

“Who?” I hear away fans and some of the Hammers faithful chant.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

Wellington Paulista is a Brazilian forward whose best position is up front, but Big Sam will like the fact he can player on the wing. Having watched YouTube videos (I know) he reminds me a little of Javier Hernandez at Manchester United. He is blessed with great dribbling skills and from what I can gather he is excellent at heading.

A Cruzeiro fan tweeted me this morning talking of Paulista and he said; “He is an excellent player, a good dribbler with optimal completion. However not every team render this football” ( A twitter translation from Brazilian.)

Paulista will join after a brilliant season with Cruzeiro scoring 19 goals for the Brazilian first division club. His overall goal tally for the club is an impressive 29 goals in 59 appearances so hopeful he will be a confident boy when arriving in East London.

The Cruzeiro forward could be deemed as a bit of a journey man and will hope to make West Ham his permanent home as he has an option of a three year deal should he impress. He has played at nine teams since he started his professional career in 2003 with two of them being relatively unsuccessful loan spell, before he burst onto the scene at Santos with 9 goals in 30 games during a loan spell in 2006.

It is refreshing to see a player so desperate to join a club, the former Cruzeiro man was eager to join up with Big Sam and his men saying; “The transfer was good for everyone involved; now I’ll work hard to succeed in this new stage of my career.”

It remains to be seen what role he will undertake at West Ham with forwards Marouane Chamakh, Andy Carroll and Carlton Cole already battling it out for the one position, but if the Brazilian can do what Ilan did when he joined the club under Gianfranco Zola I’m sure he will be deemed as a success.

A bit of Brazilian flair wouldn’t go amiss at the Boleyn and here’s hoping for a successful career.
