Where does everyone fit in?

It’s now been 12 day’s since the start of the transfer window, and West Ham have been particularly active to date, with the loan additions of Wellington Paulista & Marouane Chamakh, but how exactly will they fit into the now crowded strike force.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

It was once regarded as thin and lacked variety, but now, we have options, feels great doesn’t it? Let’s start with the ‘flop’ Andy Carroll. His time here has been plagued by injuries, but has only managed 1 goal. We are paying £80,000-a-week, for one goal to date. Seem’s to be a waste, but with him coming back and still half the season to go, he has time on his side to redeem himself, but as it stands, it does not appear as if he will be signed for the proposed £17million in the summer. Although Carroll is effecting the game in a positive way, we do tend to get one dimensional with him playing. It’s all the same, ball into him, knock down, and we go from there, I’d like to see some variety, which is what he have now. Carlton Cole, the impressive Carlton Cole I should say, is a similar player, in terms of the game-plan.

Modibo Maiga. Not a fan favourite with many, but I like him. I watched a bit of him in Ligue 1 last season, he looked very impressive with Sochaux. Look at where Big Sam is playing the Malian. He is playing out on the wing whenever he comes off the bench, which is not ideal. How do you expect a player to have a positive impact on the side if he, A) Doesn’t start a regular amount of games, and B) Playing out of position. The answer is, you can’t, and therefore it’s unfair to make a judgement on a player who hasn’t been given a fair shot to show what he can do.

Ricardo Vaz Te is not one of my favourite players at the club. In fact, if he wasn’t the scorer of the Play-Off Final winner, I wouldn’t have much to say about him, in a positive light. My own personal opinion of Vaz Te is that he is a make-shift winger filling a void in a position where we are weak. He is a striker, but an average one at that. He is not a natural goalscorer. He is incredibly wasteful, and cannot maintain a regular string of consistent performances. He has no proven record in the Premier League. I know he has grown as a player, but he isn’t a player I have high levels of confidence in. I know we aren’t looking to sell anyone right now, but if an offer for RVT comes in, in the region of £4million, I personally would seriously consider it.

The first of the signings announced was Marouane Chamakh. He has endured a tough time at Arsenal since joined them, and hopefully he shows the fight and spirit we look for in a West Ham player, to revitalize his career. He is out to impress potential buyers that he is still a top player, as he will probably not stay with West Ham beyond the end of the season. Chamakh is a striker which doesn’t appear to do much; he lumbers around the pitch with ease, and doesn’t appear to put much effort in during matches, so we would look for an improved work rate as and when he plays. His best attribute is header, according to him, which would arguably suit our style of play, but would he be a better option than say Carroll? Cole? That can be debated.

The newest Hammer, announced Friday evening is Cruzeiro striker Wellington Paulista. Paulista, by all accounts, is more mobile striker, agile, quick, and can play off the shoulder, in behind, and is a poacher. His goals to games ratio with the Brazilian club is respectable, a goal every other game. His goals for Cruzeiro look like the one’s a natural goal scorer has to their names, in the right place at the right time. He adds another dimension to the team play, one which we do not possess with the other strikers. He can be used in a 4-4-2 alongside Carroll, or Cole, or Chamakh. He could also be played as a lone striker or out wide. My personal choice of strikers would include Paulista in the line-up, as teams would have to prepare for a ‘dual threat’.
